Normal behavior while laying eggs?

My veiled chameleon has been digging her test holes for the past 2 days, this morning I took a peak at her and she seemed to have picked a hole she liked.. when I checked on her again a couple hours later, she was just sleeping on top of the dirt and she seemed to have covered up the hole. My question is, if this is normal behavior? The laying bin (12x12x12) is inside her cage covered by leaves for privacy. I’ve read that when they are finished laying, they will climb back up into their vines...if she is still on the ground, then does that mean she is not done laying? They are not fertile eggs and I do not know her exact age. I would say she’s about 1 year old. This is her first time laying eggs.

You're right ...she should have returned to the branches. Is she awake or asleep?
If it looks like she filled the hole in intentionally then I would gently put her back up in the branches and remove the container and dig up it up looking for the eggs as quickly as possible so you can put the container back into her cage as quickly as possible. If there are no eggs then either she phantom laid or she wasn't satisfied with the hole.
