Nosy Be Chameleons Availability?

I'm new to chameleons and really really like the looks of the all-blue Nosy Be panthers. I've been thinking about getting one and have decided that I'm not 100% convinced that shipping them would be the method I want to get mine. I'd also like to see how the animal acts in it's enclosure before I decide on which one. I've heard a few things on the net about people sending non-Nosy Be chameleons and basically ripping people off. I live in Cincinnati, Ohio and our local reptile scene is pretty sad from what I've seen. I wondered if anyone knew of a breeder or shop in the tri-state area of Ohio, Kentucky, or Indiana that may carry Panthers on a regular or somewhat regular basis. Also, I'm taking a weekend trip to Chattanooga, Teneessee in a few weeks and was thinking if someone knew of a breeder or retailer in that area that might have something to look at I'd consider that. Also, I plan on attending a few reptile shows, I check kingsnake.com on a regular basis to see where there are going to be reptile shows. Any help would be appreciated in my quest for one of these chameleons.

shipping is perfectly fine as long as you buy them from respectable breeders such as Flchams, Kammerflage, and many others listed in this forum.
However, i do agree with you that going to the reptile show is one of the best way you can get your chameleon.

Avoid retailer and pet store. Make it your last method.

Buying of a private breeder is different from a pet store. They will not let you come to them to check out there stock. If you are near they will meet you somewhere to pick them up. That is why you buy off a reputable breeder you know that you will get who is in the pic and a healthy cham also. They will answer all your questions and any problems they will fix. As for seeing how a certain cham acts and wanting to see the one you get you should go to a show and check them out. This way you can see the cham in person and decide. Personally I dont buy a guitar without playing it first but it is different when it comes to this. Buy from a reputable breeder and you will have no problems.

Honestly though I don't like doing mail order. I've bought animals mail order before and have had ok results. But right now it's wintertime and I just don't like the idea of getting one through the mail. Plus the extra expense of shipping is something I can do without. I'll see what I can find at the reptile shows I go to, if I have to mailorder I'll more than likely avoid getting one.

some breeders refuse to ship during winter.
I think you should use this winter time to set up your cage and research intensely about chameleon keeping. by spring or summer, you'll be ready to just put the chameleon in his casa. :)

From what I've read it seems that chameleons personalities can vary from animal to animal although they all seem to have a shy retiresome type demeanor. But, from those that have kept this variant, what are typical characteristics of this animal when it comes to human interaction? I've got a cat so I would be keeping the chameleon in my room with the door shut and I'm gone at work for 8 hours a day. So he would get little human interaction throughout the day, only when I get home would I be able to work with it. Are odds in my favour that I'll be able to handle the chameleon on perhaps a daily basis for feedings/general handling? Now I remember that they're all different but what do the statistics say? Thanks, Chris.

go here and look at the shows in the smallest type possible. http://www.kingsnake.com/events.html

but they have a few in kentuckey, ohio, illinois, in feb. try to get one from there if you dont want it shipped. now i dont no if they will have nosy bes or if you can trust them that it is 100%, but if you dont want to pay the extra 50 from a reliable source then you will get what you pay for. if you get it from someone on here or someone recomended on here you will be getting what you ask for and you will know that it was taken care of well. it also will be shipped well and if their is any problems then they will help you out. i dont no about any of these shows tho. sorry.
