Nosy Be Question

Well, I've got the bug! We have a new 2.5 month old Ambilobe and at the time I couldn't decide between an Ambilobe and a Nosy Ne. So, I just decided we'd eventually get get two of each 1.1 :)

My question about Nosy Be's however, is about markings. Are the NB's that have the red sun ray patterns around their face a rarity? Is this something you typically only see in WC's or should I be able to find a CB in the future like this.

Someone on the forum has a Juvie that has these markings, but I'll be hard pressed to afford it right now, but if it's a really rare thing I'll make it happen.

Thanks!

....Dan

If I did see any red on the Nosy Be's I've seen, I never noticed it. This guys eye turrets and front portion of his face are BLAZING

Sure would like to here from the much more experienced forum members if they've seen this before....

The red is more common in wcs... most of the captive breds you will find are selectively bred for thier blue coloration...hence the name true blue... you should be able to find a lil red in the cb market just dont go for the "true blues"

Nosy Bes come in very green and yes many of them have lots of red. As Forever stated many of the CBB Nosys have very little red or green for that matter. The longer Nosy Bes are in captivity the more blue they turn, thus the deeper generation Nosys are very blue with little red.

Here is a wc that I had earlier in the year:

More or less most try to shoot for solid blue with little to no red in Nosy Bes, thats what sort of separates that local from the others.

It is all opinion, some people like the reds. If you notice, reds in Nosy Bes are only on the eyes and background color. Also their reds are speckly reds in the background not on their barring, which separates them from a red body blue bars. The blues are definitely nice and a bit different blue than an ambilobe.

It is all in what you want.

here is a picture of my male when he was 11.5 months old , the pic is a month old so hes coloured up abit more and it gets better with every shed and this guy was baught localy to from Harry at www.chromachameleons.com were right here in Ontario canada and if you ask me my opinion is that nosy bes are pure bred when they have the red in the face and the yellow lips but like chris said there its all in what you want , and if you want a nosy be thats all blue then go for it if you want a nosy be with red and yellow lips then go for that one , i just like a lil bit of mixture of colours makes them more interesting

Yup, It is said that in Captive Breeding, All Blue is what people aim at getting when choosing their breeders. I personally don't mind the red, But when I bought my Nosy, I wanted aimed at getting one with as little red as possible. I am yet to see a Nozy Be that has absolutely no red on it anywhere, But elwood comes really close with very few, tiny red speck just around his eyes, and along his rostral crest. Gotta Love the Nosy Be's!

Look at this Handsome Guy!
