Not Drinking Cham!

Oh ya I think there is more that understands as well. I use Emeraid Critical Care Carnivore powdered food. It works great. In one week I got a gecko to add on 3 grams. Doesn't sound like much but she was only 4 grams when I got her in. Bad news I didn't get her in time as she didn't make it. But I have used the food often. Even to get my bearded dragons to eat something when they are in brumation. I now just stop at the vet's office once a year to pick up a fresh bag if I have not been there in a while.

I'm not sure if he gains a lot of weight since I know opening that mouth of his has to be exhausting for him. After all I dont want some weirdo shoving his hands into my mouth. But at least he is eating!

Sunken eyes are more often a sign of illness not dehydration IMHO.

You said he's not using his tongue...does it stay in his mouth or hang out at times? Was that happening from the beginning or did it start not working after you had him a while?

Did you give him calcium when he was eating?

How long have you had him?

IMHO the basking temperature could be a little higher.

What medication is he on? Did the vet could, dandelion out any infected areas and do a culture and sensitivity test?

Did the vet do a test for parasites? Fischers are famous for heavy parasite loads and depending on the way the parasite load is handled it can kill them. Fischers also suffer from a failure-to-thrive "syndrome" especially if handled too much.

If he's sitting on the floor of the cage is he getting any UVB light?

What donyou mean opening his mouth is exhausting?

If that food you are giving him doesn't contain calcium you might want to find a way to get him some. Maybe your vet could give you some liquid calcium to put in the food mix, or just mix a little powder. Might want to give him a little multivitamin every once in a while as well he seems to be losing his strength. He is either sick, or not getting what he needs. If the meds the vet is giving you is an antibiotic it can cause problems in of itself. they usually provide you with another med to counteract those effects. Just my opinion I hope everything works out for you.

He's getting a calcium supplement as well. I'm giving him about a week. If nothing improves were going to go see the vet. Thank you!

I wouldn't wait a week and go now. Or at least call the vet and talk with him/her about what you see is going on now. I would also answer the questions by kinyona.

No his tongue does not hang out, when he shows interest in his food (like once a week), he shoots it out to grab some crickets but his tongue only shoots out maybe 2 to 3 inches, and then he never catches the cricktes, i started pilling up the crickets so that when he goes for them he can at least scoop them up. It all started when i fed him bigger crickets (since my girl gets 3 week olds), he ate 2 and threw them all up again.
I did i dusted his food with calcium- but since ive had him he has eaten maybe 50 crickets. When i went to the reptile convention i made sure to ask if he drank and ate on his own (because i had a male Jackson that only drank from my spray bottle) then i took him home- he didn't eat the first 2 days- which i understood since it was a new home- he ate normal the first few days, but i noticed he couldn't shoot his tongue across the cage like my little girl could. I have had him since the end of August.
Would you recommend that i buy a strong heat bulb?
The vet did not quit tell me what they did- i dropped him off the morning i saw him vomiting- and she said he had a oral infection which could be why he doesn't want to eat.
I did have a fecal done- she said he had parasites- this was before he had even ate any of my crickets that i have. She said it was from his food so i knew it wasn't my food (a he never ate any, b my girl is clean). She said once his diet changes that he should be okay.
But to be honest he doesn't eat more than his omnivore blend and if he poops its the size of what liquid he ate, its still runny but he doesn't really poop.

I don't really handle him unless i take him out of his cage to climb on the wall but then i usually don't handle him for 24 hours after.
He sits between the leaves- so i see him getting some of the UVB light, or he sits on the side of his cage in the direct light.
I also take him outside for 20 minutes if its not cold.

We have to open his mouth with a Popsicle stick thing- and after he is done getting his food, and water, and calcium supplement, and his shot in his leg, he just looks completely exhausted, so i usually put him on the wall and he sleeps.

This is what I would do. Make another visit to the vet but this time stay there. See what the vet is going to do. I would run blood work but I would have done that in the first visit. Blood will tell you a lot. It could also be that the injection you are giving is not settling with him and to harsh on his system. Do you know what that is? Did the vet tell you at all how long this would take before you see some improvements?

But to me I would find another vet. I always do interviews with vets before they see any of my animals. I need to feel comfortable with them and know that they know what they are doing.

I love my vet she takes care of all the exotic animals she gets and seems to care. I just emailed her asking their hours during the holiday season. His medicine is called ceftazimdine or some kind of spelling. Its a internuscular. I will see if she can do blood work this time. I just want him to be okay because he is so beautiful!

Ok let's see if someone can tell you about the drug you are giving. I'm not familiar with them. Glad to hear that you trust her. Find out then how long before you should see some improvement from your guy after doing all this.

All the problems I have with my scaly kids is in my head. So I have not had to give meds. They go in every year for check up. Otherwise its just the rescued ones I have to take in but they are in so bad of shape its normally due to starvation.

She said it's to fight the infection but I dont really know if it's gone away. I came home today and he was fake basking on my climbing wall where the sun hits so I took him outside he didn't drink any time today during his sprays but he will get syringe water today after food.

I'm so sorry to hear things are turing for the worst. Let us know what happens when you can. I hope they can tell you more and help.

They usually don't take chams but they weighed him and are now giving him some fluids to help him until I can get to my vet in the morning. Thank you :)

He passed around 2pm. They did a necropsy or whatever it's called and she said all that could have done this was his infection not going away.

I'm so sorry for your lose. You really did a great job with him and getting him the help he needed. We will all be joined together with our loved four legged kids someday, I look forward to the day.
