November Post Processing

For November: post-processed photos will be accepted if they show a natural representation of a chameleon and its environment. This subjective decision will be made by the site administrator, and will be heavily influenced by the more experienced members of the community.

I think it means the chameleon needs to be in natural environment not on a hand or a soda can or anything.

finaly you can use lightroom and/or photoshop to finalise your photo before submitting it.

it means that you should not over do it when changing the representation of what the chameleon really looks like.
in other words, if the sky in your photo is too flat or not as blue as it was in reality, then you can punch it up a bit to make it look like it did in the real world....just don't over do it, as most of us can tell and you should not be posting "fake" looking chams to begin with.

thank you Brad for finaly alowing all of us to submit realistic photos of our subjects and their suroundings. ;)

Maybe that's where I am going wrong! I just post the photo as it was taken, after resizing it first. Can't be doing with all that Photoshop malarky, lol!:D

The post processing that will be allowed in the November contest is not a permanent change at this time. It should be thought of as an optional theme. Members must produce their original image file if requested. I'll post more information when the Contest begins in November.

this is a great idea Brad, and will be an improvement to this site.
don't let a few bad apples spoil the bunch...if you get my drift. ;)

In other words, don't FU** it up guys.....

I know how hard it is for Brad to allow this. He is pretty adamant about post processing.

Again..... don't mess it up people!

Well...

Just to be on the safe side :D can someone maybe post an original pic, same pic with "good" post processing, and same pic with "bad" post processing? I think more than a few people would like to see.

Thanks,
Dustin

Yep, I agree. I would like to see before and after processing pic too! I'm not into all that phtoshopping lark, I just crop my picture if needed and post it unedited.

bad would be making the color pop far more than the animal is really capable, representing the animal in a false way by changing settings on the photo. making larger edits to the content is what is 'bad' not so much a poor job of editing.

Really what it boils down to is..... If Brad says 'no, too much' just take what he said and either change it, or don't cry when he rejects the photo from the contest.

So to clarify - there is no post processing allowed in the normal contest?

Two pictures are attached, the duller photo is the original and the second is a photo that is brightened (slightly exaggerated). Not normally allowed, correct? Because - not to mention the fact the background is way to bright- but it misrepresents the specimen being portrayed.

Since I always think of Brad as doing everything a the drop of a hat, why November? That seems like a long way off. Also this is a old thread, what is going on? Are we talking about a change again or is this from last November?

Currently, if I can't detect it then it is allowed. I prefer that people use post processing for things like noise reduction, and not to misrepresent their animal or photo. If you see a suspect photo, please report it privately.

Sorry to dig up the old thread.... I was just making sure I understood the post-processing.

Brad, thanks for the clarification.
