Odd Odor?

Im just wondering if anyone else gets an odor from they're chameleons, I'm sure it is the poop but i also think if could be the leaves of the fake plants and the crickets.

Does anyone have a trick around this? I dont want to febreeze the room up cause that'll probably cause some sort of problem.

I feel like all reptiles smell the same. When i had snakes, iguanas, monitors, chameleons, etc. They all smell the same when you walk into the room they're in.

Just make sure you air out your room every now and then. Try not to spray any scented air fresheners, i'm sure the fumes could harm a chameleon. Considering they're def i'd figure they rely on their sense of smell allot.

I have two dogs and a cat, the dogs aren't really the problem but im worried about the cat i try to air it out everyday for a few hours and keep the window open it helps but i still have the smell. I guess im just not used to it ^.^

Try giving your chameleon a tic tac..maybe it's his breath... LOL

That's what happened to my ficus and pothos so I got another pothos to switch out and switched my ficus with my umbrella so the ficus can dry out. I was wondering what the smell was and as soon as I took out the ficus the smell was gone

Interesting! I'm having the same problem, I will have to try see if that's the issue in the morning!

My guess is it's the cricket poop.

Though, root rot is right up there.

As far as I can tell, chameleons do not smell. I'm pretty smell sensitive so I feel pretty confident in saying that any smell is not the animal's fault.

I agree...I owned an iguana and it still smells like his cage when I walk in the room even though he's been gone for over 6 months now.

Frank's cage smells exactly the same now. Like you said, I just got used to it over time with my smelly iguana

Yes, crickets STINK!!! Nothing we can do about that. But, fake plants shouldn't be the problem. I have noticed that if you have anything at the bottom of your enclosure, it tends to get musty after a few days and should be switched out and thoroughly cleaned. (i.e. eco-mat, etc). That could definitely cause an odor! Also, the larger the enclosure, the better the air quality. (Not sure the dimensions of your cage) The only thing I smell is cricket poo .

The only unpleasant smells I've ever experienced are from the feeders or from dead/unhealthy plants. Once I remove both of those from the equation, no odor at all!

I get a funny smell too but in my case I think it is the plastic plant being heated up by light bulb
