oh, how quickly they grow up

This is our boy Ryu. We've had him for a little over a month now and I absolutely can not believe how much he's grown. The composition shot was taken exactly 1 month apart (2.5 months and 3.5 months old).

His dad (Driskel at FLChams) is the biggest veiled I've ever seen and with one of the most impressive casques too! We're hoping that Ryu takes after him in that regard. I think he's off to a good start

We gave him his first bit of mango as a reward for putting up with us during his photo shoot, he seemed to enjoy it. Lol.

Ryu has grown a lot! I've only had mine for a week and he is noticeably bigger. I heard they grow fast but I didn't know it was that fast.

Does Ryu let you hold him without much trouble?

Also how do you usually get ryu onto your hand??

We try not to handle him too much. He doesn't really like being held. He retreats into his enclosure when I put my hand in there so I have to trick him into running onto my hand, lol. Once he's there, he tolerates me pretty well, but it is obvious he wants to go back to his cage. I always give him some type of treat when I take him out (like mango or wax worms) I don't give him these while he's in his enclosure in the hopes that he will associate coming out with a special treat.

I usually get him onto my hand by putting one hand behind him in the cage and one in front, he'll run away from one and right onto the other, lol. Works every time. I always move very slowly and never grab for him.

Up until 2 weeks ago, he wasn't eating much, only about 4 or 5 crickets a day and occasionally a few meal worms. We changed from using a cup feeder to using a shoe box sized plastic box mounted in his cage and now he's eating closer to 10-15 1/2" crickets a day. I just ordered some small dubia for him as well to give more variety in his diet. Hopefully he'll like them
