I have a year old male veiled who has an eye problem in one of the eyes. He recently started eating two 2 inch + hornworms daily but i noticed when sleeping one of his eyes is not closing while sleeping. The other eye is closed but the other one seems to have something inside the rim of the eye thats not letting it close.

One of the eyes is closed and the other is not. He is sleeping but there is something wrong with that eye.

Im giving him a liquid calcium supplement called ---BONE AID---. liquid calcium.

Pictures help and you should fill out the "how to ask for help" otherwise it is very hard to pin point what the problem is.

Can you actually clearly see the eyeball right now?
Or is there like a film covering it?

I would drop some saline solution in the eye to make sure it does not dry out.

Yes I can see the eye and he can see from it because today he spotted me with the eye and turned to bite me so....

like SS said a bit of saline could help as well as maybe a nice warm shower to help clear possible debris.

how do i give a shower?? first time i hear about giving a shower to a chameleon...
heres the picture.

----look at the first pic please.------

I am no expert and I am FAR from a professional opinion but I notice two things immediately. The eye looks sunken in which isnt good in any situation. and the other is the brown around the bottom, is it always like that?

Ohh, he does look dehydrated.

There are different ways to shower.

You can put them on a tree or branch, and put it in your shower.

You then turn the shower on, getting the water luke warm, not hot! Just barely warm.

You then want to bounce this water, off the wall, onto the plant/chameleon.

You leave them in there for 20-30 min or whenever they are done drinking.

This works great.

The way I prefer, is to use a large, brand new, and cleaned, hand pumped pesticide typer sprayer. These can be found at walmart, or any hardware store. Fill it with hot water, take the chameleon outside(or any where you can spray water around, the shower will work) and just rain the crap out of them as much as you like. :)

I like the sprayer method, because you have more control over the water, and can more accurately create a rain effect.

Whatever way you choose, I would definitely start doing it 2-3 times a day, until he shows improvement.

Ok, I dont think thats is (just?) dehydration.

If its just on the one side, something else is wrong.

If their is any debris in it though, the shower will help.

A good long shower is pretty much a good thing for any chameleon, so it is not going to hurt, only help.

Do you have a clear pic of the other side?

He is such a beautiful chameleon. That casque is just amazing. He does look like he has a problem. I agree that a good shower is a "win, win" thing to try. It might do a world of good. He might just need that overwhelming amount of water to get going with the eye cleaning.

The brown has ways been there. I didn't notice it recently or anything. You are right about the eyes though. He's eating two 2" + hornworms every other day and is drinking good. I'm checking his poops and they are as white as snow white. Is there anything else I can do to make the situation better ?

Thanks for the help

Ok I will try that. Thanks a lot

I put the little guy in the shower and let the warm water bounce off the wall and on to him indirectly. He didn't know what was going on at first since its the first time. He kept flushing his eyes. I runner the one he has a problem with a little bit to free something stuck in there. I did the process for 30 minutes and that's about it. I will repeat the process tomorrow and the day after.

How long exactly shall I keep this up?

I would do it until you decide it has helped, or not.

You can do it twice a day, everyday safely.

Sorry his eye is still not well ;/

Its good he was cleaning them out though, that is the goal. ;)

here are some pictures of the little guy in the shower.. and i took a picture of both eyes so they are clear and we can see the difference between both.

i noticed today that he stopped curling his tail for some reason but when i took a closer look it was more serious than i thought. He stopped using his tail as often as before when climbing onto branches... here are some pics. (there is a small lump on the tail also).

i noticed there was something wrong with the tail yesterday with the small lump. 2 days ago there was nothing wrong with the tail, he was using it fine and there was no lump I am 100% sure 2 days ago there was nothing wrong.

here are some pictures...

i noticed after i gave him the shower a couple of hours later i see one of his nostrils is surrounded by a white colour. not sure what that is but its only one side. never seen that before.

Ever since I gave the little guy a shower he has been snoring every few minutes like he has a cold or something while breathing. Not sure what that is .....

Don't worry about the white stuff round his nostrils, that's just salts from the water. Another shower will wash that off. If you can try to clean the eye with saline again if he's still having problems. The brown around the eye is normal for Veileds :)
As for the new lump on the tail, I don't know what that is. Maybe someone else can help, or now he has a couple of symptoms maybe it's time for a vet visit....

I don't know exactly how you've kept him so far, but here's the best caresheet for Veileds I've read - https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/chameleonsinmyhouse/395-veiled-chameleon-care-sheet.html
