Only laid 5 eggs...

My Veiled chameleon was showing all the signs of being ready to lay so I set up a laying been for her. After about three or four days off digging she decided to lay and stayed the night in her hole.

When I came home from work she was at the top of her cage and a little skinnier, with the hole filled in so I counted the eggs to find she only laid 5.

Should I just put the bin back in and see if she lays more? She hasn't eaten in quite a while and it's concerning me a little.

Are you sure you dug around very well in the bin? They normally lay all the way at the bottom and up against the side. Veileds normally lay ALLOT of eggs so she most likely has more unless there's more in the lay bin. Is she eating and drinking? Yes, put the laying bin back in. She may need to see a vet if she doesn't lay the rest or at the first sign of weakness. Do you already have a vet for her?

She's not eating yet but she's drinking. Doesn't seem to be interested in the laying bin.

I checked all the way to the bottom and there were only the five eggs. I think she might have gotten spooked when she was laying and stopped. I don't know if there are nay vets around here that do chameleons but I can find out pretty quickly if trouble arises.

Try not to bother her too much give her privacy. And like was said the first sign of weakness, or her closing her eyes during the day you need to get her to a vet. If she is egg bound it can be life threatening. If you do have to take her to a vet make sure they know how to take care of chameleons.

Her being egg bound can be life threatening. In fact if she hasn't laid the rest of those eggs within a weak I think I would take her too the vet before she gets too weak. That's what I would do if it were me, but there again I know what it's like to loose a girl to egg binding. Good luck

Where do you live? I might be able to recommend a good vet. The are usually not real close by. I have to drive 4.5 to 5 hours to mine, depending on the traffic.

Were the eggs covered up and the ground packed down?

When they lay, they should cover them up and pack the ground down so well, you can't tell. Carefully go through the whole bin.

The eggs were at the very bottom of the bin, fully covered.

She started digging again this morning. I'm going to let her do her thing.

I was going to try and find a vet to take her today but she seems to be at it again. She has been closing one of her eyes but I can see a little sand stuck in it so when she's done laying I'm going to give her a shower to try and get it out.

She fell out of the side of her bin and now isn't moving. Both eyes closed, no strength. I called all the local vets an they said to take her to Anchorage, which I both can't afford and don't have a car that could survive the trip. She essentially has a death sentence and I'm so angry and sad that I could scream.
