Not open mouthed all the time just some of the time , is he ok .Any ideas I have turned down the heat a little . New keeper had him about 4months never kept one before . Thanks for your time .

It is due to over heating.

If you really want us to give you the best advise please upload a picture.

Do you have a dripper? and how do you keep the humidity up in the cage?

Hello, welcome - this forum is the perfect place to find info on Chameleons and their care.......also for showing off pictures of your little guy.......I expect turning down the heat has worked? What temps do you have now? Also, what species is he?

not sure dont know and dont know

I was told by the pet shop owner I didnt need a humidity tester , he said just spray in the viv 2-3 times a day that will be fine , I dont know which make or model he is , I do have a drip feeder but not installed it , shop owner again said long as you spray it 2times a day he wont need the drip feeder. I will post a picture asap , many thanks for your help. The most weird and wonderfull animals i have ever come across. Temp around 81 under the basking bulb was 85

Without knowing the species I can't say for sure if the temps are better, but for a youngster that sounds ok...........a dripper is probably best, just so there is constant access to water. Shop owners often give bad advice for Chameleons, because they are quite unusual lizards, but if he was right then you probably have a Veiled Chameleon (humidity is not so important for them). Look at some other pictures and decide if it is a Veiled......here is a very good caresheet especially for them - https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/chameleonsinmyhouse/395-veiled-chameleon-care-sheet.html

he looks fine now thanks for your help
