opinion on enclosures

I need to up grade from my glass 18x18x24 enclosure (which has 2 veils) .
We do a lot of remodeling on our house. Would a screen enclosure be OK? And with that how do you keep the humidity up in those?

How old are yours veileds? You should really Need two enclosures if your going to have 2 chameleons. Even 2x2x4 is way to small to keep two in. I would highly reccomend buying two 24x24x48 screen cages. And house each of them separately even if your trying to breed. There are many ways to keep the humidity up in screen cages. Putting shower curtains on 2 or 3 sides helps hold in humidity pretty good and still gets good airflow. Or you can make a DIY fogger or buy one, and you can also place a ultra sonic cool moist humidifier and place it near the cage.

Welcome to the forums. This is a great place to learn about chameleons. If you have two veileds then you need two enclosures. Adult veileds need a enclosure at least 48 inches high. Screen works great for veileds. If you have plenty of plants (Pothos works great to keep the humidity up) and you mist and drip the humidity should be fine for a veiled. I have a fog get and a dripper... I am just really worried about construction dust bothering them... I am trying to convince my hubby that the screened cages are the way to go....

Got them both (male and female) for Petco in Bismarck North Dakota.. they were already both 10" and very pissy... the hiss and snip at us... but I love them...

Is there any way you would be able to keep the cages in a different room from the construction? Keeping them out of a high traffic area would help them be less stressed and so they can get some alone time.

If they are adults and you have a male and female together then most likely your female will lay eggs very soon and probably fertile ones. Do you have a laying bin for her? If they are not provided with a laying bin they can become egg bound and die. Some info about females, egg laying and the laying bin.

If they are that big already they really need to be housed seperatly. The minimum cage size for a chameleon that size by itself is 24x24x48. I'm sure once they get in their own cages and get some room to stretch out and wander without stress they will start to calm down and be will most likely lighten up. Here is a care sheet for veileds: I would read over this a lot there is soooooo much useful information on here, pretty much everything you need to know.

If you have a female you will need to place a laying bin in her cage or she will become egg bound and most likely die... The laying bin needs to be 12" deep at the minimum 15" would be better and 12" wide and 12" long. Hope this helps. Welcome to the forums by the way :)

I'm from MN and have pretty similar climate to Bismark. Also I've lived in a remodel for 10+ years and in my experience as long as your chameleons are in a separate room away from the dust they should be ok. Also I use and recommend screen cages for the both of them with a visual divider in between their cages.

Make the changes that people are recommending and I can almost guarantee you'll have happier less irritable little ones. :)
