Opinions on Cham (Panther) color in relation to supplementing.

Wow, he looks to be in poor health now. That is a shame, when he was in your care, he was perfect looking. You can see mouth rot on his lip and his eyes are kind of sunken in. There is no question that diet plays a major role in the overall health and appearance of just about everything. I really do not see why that is so hard for many people to understand. Glad you shared pics of him after his new home.

I hear you loud and clear Tom. I would agree he does look dehydrated and if he isn't getting the proper hydration what else isn't he getting. Also this same keeper lost his last Cham correct? Was that to old age or something else?

My question is this: The Cham I have that has lost color looks healthy in every other way. He eats, drinks, is well hydrated, great grip, great fat pads and all husbandry is they same as the rest of my chams that all look great. So what causes a loss in color? My situation is very controlled. Even the temps day and night are controlled with a night time temp drop.

They also have Herbert, Azriel's brother. Ask them to post a pic of him! Last update I got, he was looking great so I dont know if its a problem with husbandry.

This is SUPER interesting!!! I have a cham suffering the same thing. The thing is with him NOTHING has changed. he is in the cham room(all other chams look GREAT), he is around 11 other chams eating the same food with the same gutload on the same misting system and the same lights. He has gotten dull and depressed looking, much less active and I have been fearing he was going to die. He has great grip, hand feeds well but doesn't bask like he use to and spends more of his time in the dark part of his cage. I haven't gotten him outside as much as I would have wanted to but still.

I am really interested in hearing what others have to say about this.

I wonder if they can detect the presence of another male by scent.

Prolapse. They took it to the vet, got it fixed. And he prolapsed again a day later and didn't make it after the 2nd vet visit. They even kept the hemi-penis moist and soaked his lower half in water He still passed.

I have had a few customers that have had this happen over the last couple years. The color loss happened from 8-14 months in all three cases. The common factor in all three was HEAT! 2 used night heat and the 3rd ones cage was close to a heater vent All 3 were kept in a room close to 80deg. All 3 regained there colors when there environment was cooled down.I noticed quite a bit of dehydration in dull colored pictures compaired to the first pictures..What temperature range was he kept? I question his diet as well....

wow thats crazy ,what can it be ? cause im pretty sure with a friend like you anything that was wrong would of been fixed or you would of took him home but the sudden past just seem so bizarre
