Options to add another?

Hey everyone. Recently I was offered another female Panther. I already have one male and one female. My male is in a 2x2x4 and the female is in an 18x18x36. Even though I have a mistking, I unfortunately dont have the room to add another cage right now.

I am being offered the other panther because for whatever reason, my 8 month old female is just so small. She is perfectly healthy, eats/drinks/poops like a champ, but at 8 months she is only 38 grams. She may just be little. Even though I feed her as much as she can eat, she seems to just be little, so I am thinking there will be issues with her ever creating eggs.

Do I have any options to be able to take in this other female? Has anyone ever divided a cage? Does that work, or does it create too small of an area for them to live?

Any ideas? or am I just out of luck due to not enough room?

We all come to a point when enough is enough. I have three Chams and would love a panther. I to am limited with space, also upkeep has to be considered. You mentioned eggs, that to requires additional space. It is a endless deal with my female. Last but not least my wife, she says thats it. Good luck.

8 months is still young, with lots of growing to do still. Give her time, she might surprise you. Also remember that females are generally much smaller than males, often only 2/3 the size of a male.

generally a panther should be kept in a 1 cham length by 1 cham length by 2 cham length high cage as the min for an adult female. Even with those numbers it normally turns into a 18x18x36 cage. I wouldnt want to go smaller than a cham length in any direction...

well luckly for me I dont have a wife to deal with. hahaha.

And I agree that 8 months is still young, its just when I compare her to others, she is just way small.. She still looks like a 4 month old.. But like I said, she is kept in the same conditions as my male, and he is a healthy beast. We just dont know why she is staying so small. I am just looking at other options in case she doesnt get big enough to reproduce. And my awesome breeder is offering me another female due to it first as an exchange, but then *** another offer so they could make room for others. But I just dont really have the space to add another cage, even though I would really like to.

I was hoping someone had a random idea or method to make it work with my space provided, even though I wouldnt want to keep a Cham in anything that they wouldnt enjoy.

I am a little perplexed how you would have room for all the babies if you don't have room for one more female?

what about if you stacked the smaller cages for the female? since its only 3 feet tall it will only be 2 feet taller than the males cage, or are you out of vertical space as well?

The babies are going to be kept in a different room away from my mistking and current set up. That misting schedule wouldnt work for the little ones. Dont be too perplexed.


And as far as vertical space, I was thinking about seeing if I could pull that off, but when I add the lights into the mix, I run out of space again. BLA!

you can always hang the lights on the side of the cage. I can imagin that being a problem with the chameleon? I mean same uvb distance if not more travel and same baskin spot just make sure a branch isnt too close.

I am going to look into this when I get home to see if thats a possibility. Ill snag a pic of my current set up also, maybe someone else can come up with an idea.

The rack system that I am using I believe they are called bakers racks, but I will need to double check on that.

Keep your lights on top of the cage. Horizontal lighting isn't the best option. I agree with the previous posts. If you have room in another area, why not house the a new female there? You say it is not near the mist king system but that just means a little more manual misting. Like you, I wanted to breed right away. My advise is to just wait, let your current female grow up, you may be surprised. My female ambilobe was very tiny at your chams age. She is still small but has no problem producing and laying eggs. Another thing is, if you have never raised baby chams it take a lot of time, money and space. This is just my opinion, hope everything works out for you.
