Does anyone out there know why orange peel should be removed prior to feeding our feeders? My feeders never seem to eat the peel so I just left it on the slices. But I saw sandra say to remove the peel.

The peel absorbs waxes and pesticides applied to the fruits to preserve it so I believe her intent was to remove those things from being eaten by feeders since they can't be completely washed off.

Ok I was wondering if the peel was toxic and I didnt know...

The peel is very good if it is organic and doesn't have pesticides. Orange peel is very healthy stuff and a terrific ingredient for dry gutloads if you grind it up into a powder so they can eat it. I use it sometimes.

The thing about pesticides is true for most fruits and also vegetables. If you are unfamiliar with it, look up obesigens. These contaminants are not only bad for humans but make us fat as well.
