Ordering Crickets

I am about to place my second order for crickets for my 4 month old male Panther chameleon. Shipping is killing me. I am paying $35.00 for overnight. The crickets are only $10.00. LOL! I want to order as many as I can without them getting too big to feed off. Last time I ordered 250, 1/4 inch and 250 1/2 inch. I fed off the big ones first and am nearing the end of the 1/4 inch batch. That was almost 4 weeks ago. What would you guys suggest I order? I am keeping them in large rubbermaid tubs. I have had zero die offs and no smell. Some of the last few seem to be getting a bit on the large side.

Order 1000, take half for feeding and the other half for breeding, that is what i am doing, i buy about 200 crickets locally, i breed them and now have hundreds of 1/4" crickets, in a few weeks they are going to be big enough to feed, oh and i started another batch, is going to hatch in about 2 weeks

Where do you live? Maybe there are members in the area that can sell you some, or at least know where you can buy some locally.

I live near Houston. I am in love with the banded crickets from Ghann's. I am afraid of parasites in crickets and I feel like these are really good quality.

I am not sure I am up for breeding them. That sounds like a ton of work :( What is involved?

If they smell bad, there is something wrong. They shouldn't smell bed, though they do have a normal smell to a healthy colony. I haven't noticed any smell with the banded crickets.

I don't think I've tried the banded species, but I hear they have less of a stink. I really hate crickets so many I'm being biased. Damn stinkers. :D
