Other breeds of lizards

I have a Jackson Cham and he's a cool little guy but he hates me which is understandable considering they are not ment to be picked up or touched a whole lot. That being said I would like to get another breed of lizard that don't mind being held or picked up daily. I have been told bearded dragons are great for this kind of thing. Does any one have any other breeds they know of or any tips for caring for a dragon? Oh and this does not mean I will be giving up my Jackson he's my friend I would just like to add to my list of friends.

PS: if any one knows of any good sites or anything with some good info about dragons please link me

I got 2 bearded dragons who tolerate me pretty well. Chinese water dragons are tolerate too, I have one. Crested geckos, leopard geckos, and frilled dragons. A good bearded dragon website is beardeddragon.org and a good gecko website is geckosunlimited.com

I have had a full grown large female bearded dragon under my jacked sleep on me for an entire day of school and no one knew about. They are amazing and will just bond closer and closer to you. I would say the most lovable animal out there. It is a shame people just breed the hell out of them and make them sick and weird with silk backs and super trans

I would recommend getting a pretty non-leather or silk back and just get a colorful healthy looking animal from someone who isn't mass producing them.

I was on some site and some guy said that his bearded hibernates. Do they really do that? Is there a big difference the male and female bearded like there with chams?

i have never had an issue with any of my chams or beardies. IMO they are exactly the same in that you have to handle them to get them used to you before they will allow it. i have heard of mean chams and beardies and people loving chams and beardies. my friend has anoles that wont get near a human hand but i have had them and have known others who have had them that are super tame. any lizard be it BD, Cham, Anole, Gecko, Tegu, Frilled, Monitor. they all need to be worked with. people have tegus that run around there house like its their dog. it all depends on how you go about dealing with that particular creature

I completely agree! When I was looking for my first cham, I was all stressed out about not stressing out Loki lol but then I realized, there's a gray area. You should handle them moderately and let them experience new surroundings every once in a while so every little thing doesn't scare them. In my oppinion, by handling them you are making them less stressed out by things like taking them outside for real sunlight, and cage cleaning. Mine could care less if I'm in his cage, or if I'm holding him for whatever length of time now. You just have to take it really slow when they're babies and be really gentle and they respond well I think. Mine did anyways You can always tell if they've had enough and you're really stressing them out too much. That's when you back off, or even before it gets to that point. He now associates me with food and going outside! This is all my theory, Loki's my first, but that's just what I've noticed with him.

I started in reptiles by keeping bearded dragons. I found them to be the friendliest, sweetest reptile I have ever seen. I took in a number of rescues (does this sound familiar) back then. I took in a couple dragons that were mean, or so I was told. Never had one over 3 days until the were as sweet as a puppy. I always refer to beardies as the puppies of the reptile world. The only reason I don't have dragons now it time, space and most of all temps. They need to be hot, and dry so they can't share a room with a cham. And I seem to have chams all over my house......

i have to agree with you there. Beardies are deff like the lizard version of dogs and puppies... and i think Chams are the Cat/Kitten version lol.

I actually handle my chams daily and they are fine with it. I have one that would hang out with me all day if I let him.
I also have a Chinese Water Dragon. He loves to be held and he goes to Petsmart with me when I pick up supplies.
My 4yr old grand daughter also handles all my scaley babies with ease.

WOOO huge break through with my Jackson yesterday and today i just held a length of dal rod in his cage and he crawled up it to me let me hold him for a few min then i put him back. did that again about a hour ago and when i just had to put my hand back in his cage to add in a new plant he didn't freak out on me YAAA. YA it would figure i would get the cat version of the lizard world -.- i hate cats. not to say all cats are bad i have owned some cool cats but i just like dogs more. when i get the money i will be getting a bearded dragon to go along with my cham now. i have also seen videos of bearded dragons in like a small harness and leash and people walking them. Are these people just plane crazy or do they really like that stuff?
EDIT: I also wanted to know what the major diffrences are between male and female dragons. i know that in chams its color and i have been told that female veils lay eggs regardless of mating.

Bearded Dragons can move alot faster than most people realize. the harness and leash is to keep them from escaping when you have them out... we have one for our little guy but dont use it inside. only if he gets to go outside. and the dragons dont really mind it. like laurie said, they are the dogs of the lizard world

and the only real difference is their genital "bumps"
their temperament and color is only different per lizard. so a citrus female and a citrus male are alike or a leather back female and a leatherback male are alike (so to speak). its not like chameleons

we live in PA and we ordered ours all the way from Washington state. we found an amazing breeder and i absolutely love her beardies. she is great to work with and has gorgeous lines, i would recommend her in a heartbeat

Does she have a site or anything so I can get a look at her breeders? And if you don't mind me asking about how much did they cost with shipping? I would love to get one of the red breeds but I hear they can cost a lot of money
