Other pets with chameleons?

I'm new here and am in the research and fact finding part of the journey. I've always been enamored by the beauty of these things, have had some experience with snakes and other small lizards earlier in life. So now as I plan this out I have to see how 3 cats, 2 dogs, and 2 parrots will fit in. I am aware that I will have to keep a new cage locked away out of the others territory for a while. Once the cham is comfortable with me and its new surroundings, will I be able to have him in any common areas or will he be stressed out by the attention he's gonna get from the others ? Let me stress I'm not concerned for his life, just don't know if they can get stresses out by other animals roaming around outside his cage in the same room . Thanks for your help, Peter

Alot of chameleons have different personallities, mine never cares about my pets, including three cats and a small dog, while some could feel threatened and get stressed. I've seen plenty of users on here have their chameleon interact with their pets, (like a ride on a dog's head) when the said dog is tame and wouldn't attack it or jolt around, but if your animals would try to hurt your chameleon, tries to claw at the cage, jump on it, etc, it might not be a good idea. All depends on the animals.

I have 3 cats and a dog, and my cham never cared when they came around him. Right now, the cham cage is sitting on the floor cuz im in between houses right now, and the dog is on eye level with him and Kink could really care less.

I have cats, dogs and parrots all in the view of the chameleon. None of my chams have ever cared. I don't let the parrots land on the cham enclosure, and I do not let the cats sit on top. They like the height and the warmth of the lamp, but I get them off of there when I see them. I'm sure they go up there when I'm not around, but I try to control it best I can. Just what I do.

I'm pretty sure my four inch big chameleon is braver than my (usually a hunting dog) one and a half foot big rat terrier, my dog is terrified of crickets and anything that moves, including leaves. My chameleon stares down all the pets and is perfectly calm.

Funny!.....

I would go with to each is own with chameleons everyone says they all have their own personality.. My dog chases everything that moves and my female veiled runs from anything that moves!! Unless there is food involved! Drives me nuts sometimes!

My cham is free-ranged and I have a cat as well. I should mention that I have *THE MOST* docile cat on the planet. My cham generally ignores him, but on a few occasions where he has climbed down to the ground and my cat saw him, he clearly got upset (obviously). I don't let him climb down usually though so its not really a problem...

as for the birds though....do realize that chams are prey animals. If your parrots are free-flying around the house, I would say that it is more than likley that they will stress him, especially if they come anywehre near him. I have 2 lovebirds that I occasionally let fly (they are tame and not clipped). If they fly towards my chams free range, I can tell he always gets defensive/scared (as such I don't let them go there anymore :p)

If your cham is in his cage and the animals can't get to him, he'll be fine. But if you are talking about free-ranging, you need to MAKE SURE there is a place in his free-range that is absolutely secure (that is, none of the others can even get close to it). Needless to say, esp with birds, that can be very difficult to do.

My chameleons don't seem to mind my dog but each cham is different. Parrots you could keep out of line of sight, not sure if the noise would bother them though. I would be worried about the cats jumping on cages and such.

Now a funny story: I was sitting on the couch watching a movie with my nosy be and my dog asleep beside me. The cham actually shot his tongue at my dog and smacked him right between the eyes. I couldn't stop laughing, my dog not so much...

cat and cham

My cat doesn't know the meaning of hunt ive seen her and a mouse eat out of her food bowl??? She didn't noste my 3m panther until he was 5 months now shes not sure and runs away, thoughts she would when he was older but not this early she's more of a woos that I first thought! My adult male panther doesn't care about my 2 cats or dog, the baby veiled doesn't seem to either however when i walk by his cage he does tend to either stop moving or hides on sight.
