Our New Arrivals!

The newest members of our household arrived today! 4 Pygmy chams: 2 bearded and 2 temporalis. There are 2 more on the way. All sent to us by Steve from Chameleons by Design.

Guido (our veiled) also got a mate this week, with the help of Tess from Lacey, Wa. I don't have photos of our lovely female Veiled, yet. Will post those soon. My husband named her Aphrodite (not too subtle:p) but she reminds me more of Kate from The Taming of the Shrew. I forgot how feisty young veileds can be! She and Guido met briefly, for a quick introduction. She is 10 1/4" long, weighs 55g, and lives in her own reptarium in an adjoining room. She may be ready to breed in a few months.

Here are a few photos of the pygmy chams and their new home.

I wish I could say something really profound .... but all I kept saying is ... "AWWWW ...Look how cute!" ... I am a grown man ...and all I could say is ... "how Cute" ;) Congrats ... They are really "cute" ... Incredible set up and excellent looking animals ... I called the Mrs. Over , pointed and said ..."I WANT THAT "

Please keep the pics coming.

Thank you for the nice comments and encouragement. And thank you, Julirs, for the detailed setup description you provided on this forum. We followed it, with a few modifications. We are really enjoying the little guys! Sandy

Glad to be able to help! Steve is a great guy with great chameleons! Enjoy them-they are a riot. They think they are a million times bigger than they are. :)

Oh yea, wow. That looks like alot of fun to hide around in!

and such cute little babies D:

I can tell already chameleons are going to be addictive.

These little guys are too much. We are told that the two species won't crossbreed so there is no reason to worry about having them all in one habitat. Well, the two bearded chams have settled down in the far left side of the terrarium and the two temporalis have settled in the far right side of their new home. The tank is a 55 gallon size so they are literally almost 4 feet apart. They must think they are back in the jungles of wherever their breed originates. I expect to see them putting up a fence across the middle of their little forest. And watching them eat little tiny fruitflies is just too much. We are going to order them some pinhead crickets on Monday and the rest of their buddies will arrive on Tuesday. This is so exciting!

I am now angry...because you have now taken about 400$ out of my bank account ( I am going to have to order some ):p.

I think I will get mine in December, from Mike at FLchams.

Jake

PS-great critters :)

Congratulations..........It is hard coming up with something new to say that hasn't been said already. But I must repeat............they are adorable! And your setup is great too. They do look like fun!

I'm excited about Aphrodite and can't wait to see pictures of her. I'm so glad you got her for Guido. Luck boy! Is Tess in Lacey a breeder? I live less than an hour from there. Does she have other Veileds?

I'm so happy for you......keep the pictures coming :)

Unfortunately, Aphrodite was the only chameleon Tess had. Here are 2 photos we just took of her. Unlike Guido, she does not slow down or pose for photos. Guido always just strutted around and would stop and "pose" when we took him out of his cage, when he was a youngster. But I think that is just part of being a male (chameleon, that is :D ). Aphrodite is go-go-go, so it's been hard to get photos. When in her cage she still hides, because she's new to us, and a youngster. Both of these photos are while out of her cage. Sandy

Very nice display piece. You could use either more horizontal twig branches, more ficus plants, or even better both.

Id like to learn if you notice any territorial disputes between the two species, because as far as Ive read, several sources which describe intermixing species describe how they prefer not to be in each others proximity.

thanks for the comments and suggestions. Sandy was also thinking we need more things for them to climb upon. they are very young and don't move around too much. I think most of the time they are staying close to the ground. Right now one of them us up a few inches into a tree.
We will be monitoring the two species conflict. They did seem to separate to opposite ends of their little forest. But then the next day they were all over the place again. If there does develop a conflict, like when they are older, we feel that the habitat is large enough to divide into two halves. I will just put a glass or plastic wall up the middle. We will have a total of 3 bearded and 3 temporalis. One male and 2 females of each species. This will be interesting! Hard to believe that little tiny creatures which weigh about 5 grams and are about an inch long can captivate the attention of 2 adults for so much of each day! What fun! :)
