Outdoor cage

Hi, ive had my veiled chameleon for about 2 months and he is actually in the hospital right now for a whole sleu of things from parasites to MBD because lll reptile was not caring for him properly. Hes had these problems ever since we got him. Anyway, I decided that we are going to build an outdoor cage for him to live in during the summer and spring so he can be exposed to natural light and humidity. I live in atlanta georgia and it gets quite warm and humid in the summer and spring and I would like to keep him outside as night as well. So im wondering, how big does it have to be? Any special requirements? A design would be nice too as I have never built anyhting before like this. Can he be outside at night? Thanks

I'd be interested in following this discussion as I'm in NW Georgia and have considered building an outdoor setup for the summer.

No particular design, you just need to maintain the same rules of husbandry outside as in. The cage will need to be setup so he can thermoregulate properly. That's important. Also, your concern will be predators. With birds, snakes, raccoons, opossums, etc... you will need to make sure that whatever material you use is impenetrable. I've seen pics of people using mesh and wire products that were definitely capable of containing the chameleon, but snakes were able to squeeze into the enclosure. I use a couple of mesh reptariums to let my guys have outside time. I have them in my yard where they will receive morning and evening sun. Afternoon sun can be too much even for a Veiled. Keep it elevated off the ground so fire ants can't make their way inside. I would recommend not letting them sleep outside over night unless you build something very secure...even at that, I am not a fan of leaving them outside period. Just my opinion.
