Outdoor UV

I know that no bulb can compare to real sun, and even in the shade it can be brighter that a uv bulb.
I was just wondering, do reptiles get uv exposure being in the shade? they get it a bit on cloudy days, that I know.
Does the sun need to actually shine on the lizard for any benefit?

Thanks.

You know how you get sun burnt on cloudy days?like say on a cruise, you lay out on a cloudy day? Same way, the sun itself does not always have to be shining on the lizard, some species can't take the heat, so shade is best, but say a veiled.....they would need the full sun for the heat. Now if your chams under a tarp....like that kind of shade, then no, it won't benefit.

Yes. Chameleons will get UVB even in the shade. As said above, the only thing they may not get if it there really is no sun..is heat.

yea just depends on what the shade is caused by though cause like stated above if the cage is under a tarp in the shade then there is no uvb. fabrics will allow 50% uvb depending on the color and thickness. shade through trees will allow uvb. if you are keeping him outside it is actually good to put the cage somewhere where the sn will hit the cage ( w/ shaded areas) part of the day and actually be shaded through trees the rest because it kind of filters it out and allows the rays to still provide the uva/uvb but not as harsh. this is good around 12:00 when the rays are very intense and hot.
