Pacing?

So my boy has started pacing a TON lately. Especially the moment he sees me he just wants OUT. I have a new cage arriving in November so I’m hoping that will help but what can I do in the mean time? He’s in this tiny little reptibreeze kit cage.

He gets on his free roam for a while before quickly shuffling over my desk to climb into my hoodie’s hood and chill there before he lets out his “puff” sound which is a sign to me he’s ready to go home.

To me it seems like he’s feeling claustrophobic. Maybe some new vines?

On a side note; if I switched to feeding primarily dubia, how many should he get? He eats 6 large crickets every other day but seems to enjoy dubia more.

Im not sure about the pacing. My cham Taco paces a lot too, but never wants out. I do know about the dubia roaches though. You should get about 30 a week, especially if your only feeding 6 crickets every couple of days. Dubia roaches also take forever to breed, so i wouldnt waste time trying to breed them. But your also supposed to feed your chameleon varieties of food like, crickets, roaches, worms, fruit, and if you can vegetables

Could you post a pic of his enclosure (I remember your free range but not the cage)? I feed crickets, dubias, red runner roaches, green banana roaches, ivory-headed roaches, orange-headed roaches, the occasional superworm for variety, bsfl and flies, silkworms, hornworms, butterworms, and painted lady butterflies. Blue bottle flies, mantids, snails, and stick insects, along with more roaches are also good. I’m sure there’s even more feeders but can’t remember all of them

I’m limited on space so I’m primarily feeding things I can purchase and keep easy. He loves those dubia roaches—for the crickets if it’s kore than 6 I just have leftovers that escape and he won’t touch usually.

I’m thinking about ordering some horn and dubia so I can do bulk for cheap. $10 for 4 horn worms is ridiculous at my Petco store..granted I get employee discount but it hurt. Otherwise I buy about 25 dubia, 20 large crickets and hornworms as well as large super worms for a cheap treat.


These photos are old, I’ve mace a few changes. Got rid of that clay pot and added a vine. Also added a second feeding cup for dubia.

The site sponsors have great deals. Dubia roaches can get you 25 hornworms for ~$8. Rainbowmealworms.net lets you create a custom combo pack, too. They also have hornworms for that price. Add more branches and vines, mostly horizontal, throughout. That cage is too small, what type of cage did you order? You could make your own cage for cheap in the meantime and when your new cage comes in, make the one you built an outdoor cage

If you can afford it, go for the 30” by 30” by 60” or 72”, bigger is better!
