Paint?

My dad painted my entire new chameleon wood cage with a wall paint, and I know it's not usually safe for chameleons if they rub against it I've heard, so what can I put over the paint (generally clear) so that my cham wouldn't be harmed?

that will work, just put it on in a ventilated area and put on 3-4 THIN coats and sand with 220 grit sand paper between coats, not on the last coat tho . dont glob it on, this will also reduce thoes little fisheye air bubles that apear everywhere and make it more clear and attractive

What type of wall paint was used? If possible you should use zero VOC latex acrylic.

All may cages are painted. Its not an issue. Why did you think it would be unsafe?

I've heard from some people on here that if my chameleon rubs against paint it'll get sick? I think my dad said it was latex paint.

Rubbing against the paint will not hurt the chameleon. Even if its tongue hits the paint from time to time it's not a problem. Even if it was cheap or old latex paint containing volatile organic compounds (VOCs), dont worry about it too much. Just let the cage off-gass for as long as possible (weeks, months if you can) before using it. Frankly, the walls in your home are likely painted with the same VOC containing paint, in which case the indoor air quality is already negatively effected.

I have healthy, long-lived chameleons living in painted cages. Its not a problem.

Try to choose quality zero VOC paint when you can - healthier for you, the chameleon and the planet.

I used a low VOC latex acryilc, and sealed all the corners with aquarium silicone to keep it water proof.
