Panther Bulge?

Recently bought an Ambanja juvenile... When I received him, little part of his hemipenes was out for a while kept it moist went back in. I noticed that on both sides of the tail which I only got a picture of one side but it's identicle on the other side is a bulge on each side. Pics were with cell phone not greatest but maybe if anyone has any thoughts if this is something to worry about or not. It seems though when he is stretched out some they are kinda still visible but not as bad when his tail is more curled and closer to body.

Try a warm water soak in the bath tub, enough water so his butt stays wet but he doesnt have to swim. He might have sperm plugs that he hasnt got out yet.

Ok he is only 12 weeks old, I remember way back in like the year 2000 I had chameleons and never experienced this , do you think I should bring him to the vet? I will try what you suggested but how long should I put this off or is it nothing to worry about? Plus this should be fun getting him to the bath tub or vet for that matter , very fiesty, likes to hiss and open that mouth real wide.

Its not not normal for them to have that bulge in front of their other man-bulge.

I think some built up sperm is a good guess at what is going on, but have never seen something quite like that before.

Just wanted to say that you are correct, its not normal.

Hello and welcome to the forum. By the looks of things I'd get your cham to the vets just to play it safe, being they are fragile creatures and things can head south quickly if not treated. Just my 2 cents.

Wow that is last thing I would have thought! Did the vet seem like she knew what she was doing? Oh well, now you have to find him a lady!:p

It looks like he has two very large, un-expelled sperm plugs on both sides, particularly in that second photo. Those can make a male look more 'endowed' than he really is and would potentially explain what was protruding from his vent when you received him.

Some info about sperm plugs can be found at the bottom of this page: https://www.chameleonforums.com/care/healthx/tail-vent/

Trace, that is why I was asking if the vet was reliable in her opinion. I am not completely convinced that he is just well endowed!

I had a similar issue with my panther when he was younger. I took him to an unexperienced vet and he said that he was "bigger" than the normal cham and ready to mate. That did not sit well with me because I have never heard of a porn star cham. I had a second opinion with a well respected herp vet and yes, he did have two very large sperm plugs. I would second the notion of plugs.

Not trying to be funny at all. maybe breed him with a female that has mated before and at full sized adulthood. it would just be wrong to sacrifice a virgin 10 month old.
