Panther chameleon diet???

okay well things sometimes look cool as they are being eaten like sorry LISA H no offence to guys or girls but im a guy and think its totally cool seeing helpless animals in the jaws of a panther chameleon they take such pride in their sweet skill of crunching their prey they just caught with their massive tongue. and nice way to offend someone you dont quite kno woot woot people here can be REALLY NICE AND HELPFUL and others like to pick out whats wrong with you isnt life great no one gets along anymore now a days sorry LISA H but i am not immature when it comes to keeping the life of a living breathing creature in my hands

Nutritional makeup of mice differs from insects.

Also, I'm going to have to side with Lisa to some extent. It sounds like an insectivorous reptile like a chameleon wasn't a suitable companion. With many reptiles, chameleons being no exception, you're going to have to live around insects.

A small snake would probably be a more suitable pet for you than a chameleon, seeing that there are very few insectivorous snakes in existence, and the many snakes who aren't insectivores depend primarily upon rodents and other small animals for food. I wouldn't recommend feeding any animal a mouse/rat that's still mobile though; they have wicked teeth that can tear an eye out or chew a tongue in half.

Edit: There's also the possibility of savannah monitors, who seem to thrive on a rat/mouse diet, though they grow to be about the size of a green iguana.

I agree with Lisa. Feeding a mouse to a chameleon for no benefit to the chameleon just because you have some twisted idea of what cool is, is not a good reason.

Pinkies are fatty, thus not a good choice of feeder.

You may be better suited to owning a snake.

I love chameleons i just saw people feed their chams rodents i dont mind bugs i just wanna have a varity of food for my chameleons and saw someone do pinkies so i was curious................ i do have a SNAKE as a pet that is a full insectivore i love him to death and all he eats in insects its petty sweet that you say there arent many i have had him three years jheuloh :)

lisa i heard that pinkie mice a re a GREAT source of protein im not talking about mince full grown im talking about a couple day old mice

I just feed my female veiled a pinkie a couple of weeks ago, It was my first time doing it, but I think she loved it and I would only do it once a month or every other month.

yeah i have seen veileds eat them but not panthers but i hear they can i wanna try buy i dont at the same time until i know 100% if i can or not

thanks :) i think im gonna try one !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wish me luck if my chameleons dont eat it ill feed it to my new baby corn snake ( not my insectivore snake )

how many? and if only one pinkie do i have to give more food as well along with it? a couple more crikets????

One pinkie should be good and when your panther eats the pinkie I would wait 2-4 days for him to fully disgust it and don't feed him anything else because of the bones and other things that feeders don't have, now he as to heat his body so he can digust it, just like snakes do after eating. Maybe a couple of crickets after a couple of days go bye.

okay thanks :) youre lots of help :) and do you kno anyone who sells panthers cheap? maybe wholesale price?????????

You get what you pay for. If you buy cheap Panthers, you get sickly animals most of the time. There are plenty of people here on the Forum selling animals for excellent prices. It cost a lot of money and stress to raise a baby Panther to selling age, so they are priced accordingly. Why do you want a "cheap" panther anyways. If you cannot afford a quality animal you usually cannot afford supplies, feeders, and Vet bills.

I have to agree with Lisa also-your comment about thinking it cool to "watch a helpless animal get eaten" are a bit disturbing. I also think your animals are a bit young to be eating pinkies.

The reason I wouldn't feed it to a female is because the high protein/calcium will increase her egg production and unless you are breeding you will have to deal with possible egg problems.

It is your animal though so do as you wish. I would also suggest waiting until they are a bit older.

JULIRS__________i can afford supplies feeders vet bills etc... i just want to buy quantity wholesale because its rediculous to buy multiple chameleons at 200 - 400 per cham i baught my two at wholesale price and they were great quality and VERY healthy :) my female i think is gravid but i cant for sure tell i wish someone helped me out
