Hey Jared I know you meant to say not having a night time drop is detrimental to their health.

Yes, they need a night time drop!!!

Chameleonfriend, have you done anything with the temperature being a constant 80? I wouldnt rule everything out but the light just yet. The animals need to be able to thermoregulate during the day and have a night time drop in temp of at least 10 degrees.

Yes I have completly stop using the controller and some still seem to keep there eyes closed its like the are awake but just keeping there eyes closed they move around and climb but keep there eyes closed most of the time it's rare to see there eyes open

Do they open their eyes when you mist the enclosure? When the eyes are open can they see? Do they notice movement etc...

No the do not like being misted at all and it look like they just reach for branches without looking where they are going. I think it's proly the light

I hope the change in bulbs will rectify this. Pray its only temporary blindness like from being in the snow with no eye protection.

If I thought it was the bulb I would turn it off and just leave a basking light on the enclosure until you got a new bulb. Is there anyway you can put them in plastic bins or screen enclosures and get them outside?

I have already turned it off and spoke to my local vet and she gave me some cream to put on there eyes. I might be able to take them outside tomorrow if its warn enough hopefully it will be

My thing now is should I get a 2.0 bulb because this was a 5.0 and it did this to my chams could it be because it's a tube style UVB light. Should I just get the reptisun 5.0 bulb

did you do a test lighting for a day because of the high output of uv radiation. it could be the cause of their sleeping probs.

I always keep my new uv-lights on for a week before editing in my cage's to make sure that there isnt too much uv output in the begining.

Thats a good suggestion. Good reason to get a uv meter for $18.00 from LLL. To check levels before using bulbs. I'd never thought about a possible defective bulb from the manufacturer.

The whole "UVB thing" is pretty complicated yet also very simple . The simple part is just get a Zoo Med Reptisun 5.0 linear tube and properly position it ~12" above your babies and you are mostly done .

It may be the case that all of your eye closure problems are traceable to the Zilla UVB light that you were using. The tricky part about blaming Zilla UVB lights is that consumers can't really be sure just which phosphor formula they bought. Early Zilla UVB products (Desert 50 and to a lesser extent the Tropical 25) have been known to actually kill chameleons at one point in their earlier production runs. Even though they have re-formulated their phosphor formula (some originals are still floating around out there), the final results are not yet offically published by an independent testing lab (UVGuide UK).

In summary: Buy the Zoo Med Reptisun 5.0 linear tube and you'll be able to cross that issue off your list of worries .

Sorry I got the uvb meter and temp gun mixed up its a temp gun that i saw for $18.00 @ LLL recently.

I have replaced it with a reptisun. 5.0 and some have started to open their eyes more but the one that have always had there eyes open and moving about, I still have not seen them eat and I have feed pin heads really small and hydei ff.

how do you feed in a cup or do you drop them in the cage?
