panther chameleon issue ASAP URGENT THANKS!!!!

Is he gaping like that constantly or only when he breathes? Also, describe his respirations, like does he open his mouth, take deep breaths, close his mouth, and not breathe for a while? Is his breathing pattern irregular?

gaping as in what? he breathes normally unless i try to mist him and he takes this sort of deep breathe but the opening of mouth wasnt constant sometimes... and he seems to be breathing fine right now

park slope is quite far away ill call em right now see if I can take em but maybe Im worried and dont have any major problems and it is uneeded

Your chameleon certainly has major problems I am sorry to say. It would be best to get him in, so they can start helping right away. You might be able to save him on your own, but it is going to take a lot of time and care. I feel that he may not make it much longer if you procrastinate much longer.

im calling right now on the line waiting.... for now what is wrong with him besides dehydration any1 know I mean they might close by the time I get there for today is there anything I can do.. Im giving him water.. he fell asleep and hes in cooler temperatures

gaping is when they open their mouth like that, which could be for a variety of reasons. So he's breathing normally now, but is he breathing with his mouth open like in the pictures?

they gave me a number im gonna call right now for the vet specialist i gave him water hes a bit sleepy as it seems but got alot of his blue and green colors added to his orange and yellow which i think is good im still trying 1 min

now hes breathing normally but he would open his mouth like hes hot to regulate temp hes sleeping and his eyes still sunken but got some color back im calling the vet who is an expert but hes to far and if i make appointment today I might now make it but im trying ok so if anything I can do in the mean time let me know thanks

What you can do for now is review your husbandry. Check and double check everything you are doing with your chameleon.

Check temps directly under the bulb, 6" away, 12" away, and so on and make sure there is a temp. gradient.

Give him 15 - 30 minute showers daily, and give him 2 or 3 minute mistings 3 times a day and run a dripper really slow all day. Also, pedialyte

If he is eating gutload very well. You may also want to try hornworms or silkworms, they can help rehydrate the boy.

Make sure you have a good uvb bulb, I use a Reptisun 5.0 linear uvb tube not older than 6 months and a regular house bulb with the appropriate wattage.

These are just some examples of some steps needed. I am sure others will give you very helpful advice, provided you can't get him to the vet today.

He is really going to need medical attention. I fear he will not make it long.

Don't mean to be a downer, but before my panther died, he was the most vibrant color I had ever seen in him. Your guy is severly dehydrated and if you are going to do it yourself, you need Pedilyte unflavored. You can buy at the grocery store in the baby section. That will replace lost electrolytes but I think he will pass soon. :(

is there a point for the vet i Mean i think he might be a bit better and my uvb is new i jus got it yesterday so is there a chance to save him... or what.. i dont know what to do
im tryin to make a vet appointment now

I dont think Ill make the vet today its over an hour drive for me and they close soon and dont make appointments towards their closing time anything else I can do NOW I NEED HELP ASAP I CANT LET HIM DIE PLEASE HELP

I have to be honest with you but your boy is going to need some serious TLC to pull through. By the pictures he is in bad shape. It is your call to make if you want to go to a vet or not. No one here can force you to take him. Therefore, I can only suggest you do what is best. Best of luck to you, I hope he pulls through this.

I am very sorry you are experience this :(, but just to prepare you, it doesn't sound good, like Donna said. Usually when they open and close their mouth like that, it is called agonal respirations at that point and is usually the precursor to them passing, which seem like the respirations improve, but they go back to doing them and it is a sign of a severe condition. Since you kept things (husbandry) the same for over a year, it sounds like the dehydration could be a secondary result of possibly a virus or bacteria or other pathogen that has been chronically affecting him since his eye issues began, and he just went downhill, causing him to not want to drink, or malabsorption causing him to not be able to utilize the water. Just like humans, chameleons can suffer ailments that we can't explain or even know what happened (pathogenic infections, heart attacks, strokes, etc), so if he does make it to when you will be able to see the vet, that is the best thing. Just make sure you keep him comfortable and give him pedialyte like Donna said, and don't stress him out too much with constant staring and handling. This isn't meant to deter you from going to the vet, definitely still keep your appointment and get in ASAP, but it is just meant to prepare you. These things can go in any direction, and lets hope it all ends well, but just be ready for anything.
you sound like a wonderful and caring owner and just know we will all be here for you to talk to if anything happens.

im tryin to make an appointment for 7 oclock for the vet im tryin my best to make it screw the money im going but What else can I do in the mean time for the tlc... i was foolish to ask the nurse what that meant haha... anything in the mean time... im gonna post a current pic to show if he got better in 2 min thanks
