Sorry the lil guy is shedding so it's a little harder to see but does anyone have thoughts on the sex of this guy?

Here's one more tail photo if that helps.

Okay, so it looks like Beman is right. Males have a bulge right after the vent, this little cham only has the vent, if you can see in this picture. You have a beautiful female cham! while they require a few more things to help them thrive and don't get as colorful as the boys, they can have beautiful pinks and purples as they mature! If you need any help with husbandry or care for your girl, let us know! We'd love to help!

Thank you! When do I need to start being concerned about a laying bin and such? She is supposedly around 3 months.

They can start laying as early as 4 months, so making sure you have the right supplies now can help when she has eggs. I’m pretty sure a 50% sand and 50% soil (safe for chams) is the mixture you need, but some other members will correct me if I’m wrong 🙂

@Sherbertsmysunshine not at 4 months old.... They are not mature at that age.

Per your baby. You will know for sure within the next month or so if it is for sure a male or a female. I have been wrong and am not a breeder so its not what I do daily. Right now nothing changes with husbandry, temp for basking would be no hotter than 80 and you will feed baby as much as it will eat daily. Typically this means easily 2 dozen insects.

Sorry about that!
Beman is super experienced and knows a lot more than I do, I thought I saw a few threads that said they start laying at 4-5 months 🤷‍♀️

you're totally fine! it's not my first cham but it's my first panther and I specifically requested a male as I am far from an exotic vet and want as few potential issues as possible. Thank you Beman, she is set up with all the right temps and misters and basking. In a smaller enclosure for a few weeks because she's tiny still, and then ill move her to her 2x2x4. If she's a girl that's totally okay just wasn't planning on it haha!

No worries at all. The youngest in captivity I have heard of laying a clutch was right about 7 months. Now in the wild I would not be surprised if it happens younger but do not know for sure.

Hey I might be wrong... Like I said I am not a professional breeder. Just a professional guesser. And with a 3 month old its really hard for me to tell since they are so small. :hilarious:

Give it another 6 weeks and if male you should see more of a little bulge coming in vs the strong indent and thin tail from the vent. If male there will be a bulge that develops after the vent.

Right now just give it everything it needs. If baby ends up being female then we will give you all the info you need for ensuring you have the best outcome with limited health issue risk. While females can have reproductive issues you are able to limit it with husbandry changes.
