What kind of chameleon would you recommend? A panther chameleon or veiled chameleon and why?

It depends on what you want to spend, and what you want.

Veileds are bigger, but can be grumpy, most have similar colors and patterns, but it of course varies male to male, etc. more known for it. BUT they are cheaper.
Panthers have brighter colors, but are alot more expensive, can also be grumpy.

Other than that, they are the same. same care, etc. cept panthers can do a bit hotter basking temp.

it really comes down to what you want to spend, and what you like more.

both need a cage that is 2x2x4. screen/mesh.

I have a veiled, and though I love her, I want a panther more then anything. The biggest difference I see is price. And slightly hotter temps for panthers. It's all about what you think looks the best and how much you are willing to spend really.

JonRich what locale is that.?

I'd say there in the US the price could be the thing that can mainly drive your choice. I have a panther and he's just adorable. I wanted one more than any other because of the amazing colours the show. Temperament was another thing, as veiled in general are more "aggressive", but not all the times. Here in the forum you have people owning very mellow veiled and grumpy panthers.
I was a bit scared of owning a huge chameleon, in case mine would turn mean, I thought I would have been less terrified from owning a small ish cham.. :p

Both of my boys ( a veiled and a panther) are great and quite mellow. Both will walk onto my hand and both will handfeed. My panther free ranges but my veiled has a recently acquired tude towards other animals so he's caged.

It comes down to your preference. I personally like the overall look of panthers way better, I don't like the big veiled casque (which is why I went with a female when I had a veiled). They are more expensive, but you can find them for $150 or a little less if you look around hand enough. But the care is the same, and the odds of their personality being one way or another are equal.

My Avatar?.. If yes, it's a Ambliobe!!

I love my Veiled, but mannn do i enjoy my Panthers.

I would like to get a panther chameleon but they seem to be a little expensive. I'm trying to find one for a reasonable price. Do you have any suggestions where i should look?

I think it depends on how much attention u give them! Ive owned veileds in the past that was very grumpy but i was also 13 and pretty much fed and watered and went about my day. So yes those where always real grumpy i never hardly held them . It's important to hold them just not too much. I get mine out once a day usually for a snack, so then they are used to me pulling them out for there treat. Which inturn opens a less stressful interaction. But contrary to that my month old baby male veiled absolutly loves to be held. he sticks his fronts out to pick him up anytime u pass his cage. He loves sleeping on my finger, but wont eat as well from my hand as my others, he is much more of a hunter as most baby and juveniles in my experience.

Hey! I'm from Illinois. There is, sadly, nothing around here. I haven't seen many people at all from Illinois. I want to start breeding Faly's with someone else in the Chicago area, but that's a while off. He's the only person I've seen in Illinois.
