Panther Chameleon Questions...

Hello everyone,

I'm new to posting but I've been reading for the better part of a year and I've acquired some chameleons.

I've asked a ton of questions and provided a whack of information about the chams and setups.

Here is a link to my questions. I wasn't sure exactly where to put my questions.

Thanks a bunch!

You can always just ask them here in general forum and mods will move them if need be to correct place.

I went ahead and copied pasted your questions here. Hope you dont mind, figured it would be easier way for people to see.

Hello, I'm new here, although I've been reading away for nearly a year now. Looks like complete post will come in 2 parts....sorry for that....

Recently I went off the deep end and am now the owner of 3 chameleons.

1. 10-12 month old Ambilobe Panther Chameleon (Male) - Wild caught

2. 18 month old Ambilobe Panther Chameleon (Female) - Gravid and was bred 9 days ago with male mentioned above.

3. - 4-5 month old Ambilobe Panther Chameleon (female) - Captive bred

Everyone is in a Reptibreeze enclosure. Male is in a 24x24x48, gravid female is in an 18x18x36 and the baby is in an 16x16x30

Everyone is using a reptisun 5.0 tube and a 50 watt basking lamp.

Everyone is hooked up to a MistKing misting system and that goes off 3-4 times a day for between 60-90 seconds at a time.

Except for the baby, I am using a mix of live and plastic plants and everyone has a number of sticks and branches for climbing, etc. Baby is all plastic plants at this time. Mainly due to the small enclosure. Although I do have a larger one ready to go when she gets a bit bigger.

So far everyone seems quite healthy and relatively happy (based on colours and apetite)

My questions are:

1. Handling or taming the wild caught male. Will he ever be able to be handled?

He'll jump from my hand if I do try to move him, which I'm trying to do so he can get some outside sun time, but he's being a bit of a knob about it all....He eats out of my hand no problem, but just doesn't want to be handled. I've had him for about 2 months now.

2. Last Wednesday I bred the female and male. She went to her gravid colours and the whole chameleon porn action went according to the books (por at least what I've read thus far). I put her laying box in this morning and have afforded her some more privacy by putting additional plants in and covering the sides where she might be seen, or where we can see her.

Gravid female is still eating and drinking like normal, I'm wondering when she will start to do her laying, and what else I need to do for her so everything is good and as stress free as possible.

And once the eggs are in the ground, what should I do? I've read a ton on this but there doesn't seem to be a consensus...I've got a container for the eggs and a bag of vermiculite...after this, I'm piecing things together.

3. Baby female is doing fine. good colours, active and eats and drinks. She loves to head to the shower in the morning and at night and I can see her drinking....

I hope I've provided enough information about everything. I'll take pictures if necessary. If it sounds as though I'm missing something or doing something wrong, I'd be happy to learn about that and correct it as soon as possible.

Thanks for reading and I hope to be a contributor before long. Until then, thanks for posting such amazing assistance and information.
