Panther Chameleon

My Panther Chameleon had a piece of his shedding in his eye, so i took him to the vet and they couldnt remove it. So they said to go home and put some more water on it to help him loosen it, so we did. When we woke up the next day he had got the shedding out of his eye. But now he seems to not be opening his eye very much and sleeping during the day and its hard to wake him up. So we again tried the warm water on his eye with a qtip and now hes opening it a little more. Just wanted to hear some thoughts.

two things you can try
1. a nice luke warm shower, put him on a plant or tree in the shower and bounce the water off the wall so he gets the mist not a direct spray
2. saliene drops in the eye, just use plain saline solution and a eye dropper and drop afew drops right on/into his eye

i just use the no name brand plain saline, some of the other more expensive ones have other stuff in them.

Sounds like his eye is irritated. What Hoj suggested is good advice, showers do a world of good. When my guy seemed to have some sort of eye irritation that was causing mucus buildup my vet recommended that I flush his eye out with the plain saline solution. I would do what I'm about to suggest if you think he might still have shed IN his eye, otherwise I have a feeling it might just make it worse going by just common sense. He suggested that I hold the chameleon (you wrap your index and middle fingers behind his head) and hold him downwards so he doesn't breathe in/swallow the solution, and you squirt the contents of the solution into the eye from a few inches away. You'll the the eye balloon with the solution and then you stop, allowing him to blink it out with any debris that might be in there.

It worked great for my one guy. He stopped having as much discharge after that, probably because whatever was irritating him was removed.

so i went up to the store and got visine dry eyes advance plus true tears.. i got home and put a drop on his eye, he is now fine! both eyes are open!!
thanks for the help!!

Be persistent with showering for a couple days. If that doesnt work, it could have to do with a nutrient imbalance. Maybe a lack of vitamin a? Im guessing it doesnt have to do with the lights considering that your not having problems with any others...

A chameleon that "sleeps" during the day and closes one or both eyes for more than a few seconds during the day usually has a health problem.
Please post detail information for all the points in the "How to ask for help" questionaire.

That is why he is sleeping during the day. They need a 12 hr photoperiod. You really need to fill out the questionnaire.
