All I can say is that travel is addictive, esp the exotic kind, not the run of the mill $399 all inclusive Cancun type (at least to me anyways). Madagascar is definitely on my to do list... I remember I was always dreaming about going to the Amazon/jungle. After the 1st trip, I couldn't get enough and ended up going 6 more times Still constantly hatching out plans to do either Madagascar, Borneo or Irian Jaya. Too many places to see, too many responsibilities just to pick up and go. Small loosely organized trips are pricey, but are incredibly life enriching and in my book worth every penny!
Small world, I guess you guys will be doing a small gecko experiment while there (or at least Bill will). Very Cool!

Someday, Someday. I think it is totally worth it, just don't have the time right now.
I noticed they have a photo of a lined leaf-tail gecko on that page you linked to. There was a very detailed article about that species in the July/08 reptiles magazine, with a lot of instructions for captive husbandry.

You know, you may hve something there. Anything is possible. That's what the high school kids do when the choir or German club want to go on a field trip overseas. But, once the money were raised, how would we determine who qualifies to go? By lottery?

My trip to South Africa in 2007 cost about $5k including airfare return from Vancouver BC Canada, food and accomodation, game parks (guided on two of the days in Kruger and one half day in Soweto, the rest self-guided), so I'm thinking $5k PLUS airfare from home and back is a bit high? Plus that's a really long flight for only 11 days on the ground. Still, it's tempting. Considering its based on double-occupancy, I'm curious to know if there are any women going? No offense to the fellas intended.

Could one not organize a simpler tour, cars without air con and simpler accommodation? Cham tour on a shoestring?

I was wondering that, too. It's not really a trip my husband would enjoy. OK, I'll be honest, he would absolutely hate everything about it, especially the flight. It would have to be just me.
