Panther sexing help :)

Hi there,

I just joined the forum today because I put down a deposit on a young panther chameleon today. The store owner said he wasn't %100 sure that it was a male, but there were sure signs that it was.

He said that he had three of these panther chameleons that came in together at 3 weeks old. Within 7 weeks two had grown twice their size and started to show some color while the third was smaller. He told me that his breeder said that the two that got bigger were definitely males while the other one was a female, and so someone came in and bought a pair of them. The one that is left (the one I put a deposit on) is one of the ones he had said doubled in size.

I don't have any pictures, and will be picking it up in a few days, but I started worrying that it could be a female, and I really wanted a male. It had little orange streaks on it already, since its a red body blue bar.

I know it's hard to tell without pictures, but does this sound like a high possibility of being a male?

Honestly, it's not just hard to tell without pictures it's damn impossible You can only tell by the tail base on young panthers.

Yea it hard to say without pics look for bulge on base tail when pic him her up and when you get it post pics someone on here will tell you for sure

Male or Female? - Young Panther Chameleon (I believe 4-5 months old)

I have attached photo of my young Panther Chameleon. I believe it is 4 or 5 months old. I have had it for one month. Can someone definitively tell me the sex? Thanks!

I believe female, but the picture really doesnt show any sure indication of that. But I think if he were really 5 months he would have alot more color, but maybe he is a late bloomer

I'm doubting that it's 5 months old, would be a bit bigger. It does look like a bulge though, on the other hand I don't see much color. Can you take more pics?

This is a picture of my 5 month old panther. Your little one is DEFINITELY not quite this age! I would guess closer to 2 months! It does look like it has a small bulge, but is there a way you can post more pics?

but then again, if it is a female it is going to be way smaller than a 5 month old male.

Pretty sure I see a bulge, but even if it was a 5 month old female, I would still call it a bit on the small side. Either way, we need some more pictures

I dont think its even close to 5 months, maybe 2 at most. Here is a pic of "hank" at 3 months and 6 months

I say female but a better pic of the profile would be conclusive. At that age its usually not hard to tell. At 4-5 months a male would be showing color and have a very noticable hemipenal bulge. I have had the oddball female that displayed what looked like a bulge and it took until 5 months to really be 100% that she was a girl.

Above statements are very true, by 5 months the males typically show some color to them. Which means by your pic (which looks very small compared to your hand) it is either a very young male, or a 3-4ish month female... Hard to tell by just one picture!
