I plucked up courage and painted a parsons and my xanth in Acrylics this week, My parsons boy struck this pose but he isn't an adult yet so I had to do some research for adult anatomy, colours and build.
I drew the whole thing from scratch without tracing and painted many many layers- the first details go on then there are many layers of transparent glazes over that then more finer and final details at the end.
I usually never paint anything with backgrounds - my things are usually more scientific studies of insects or plants on white paper but I enjoyed doing this. Finished picture about 15 x 13". I'll probably do another and learn from this one.
It's been so difficult- with every brush mark you are juggling textures, shapes, colours, tones, values, experience, ability, it really is hard.
Any artists out there will know we would never say we were truly happy with what we do but to quote something i heard recently - an artist talking about their own work - ' I don't hate it'
I'm now painting my pygs. Will post them soon too.
Painting or drawing a subject such as this has been a lovely thing to do and you really get to study shapes and textures and get a better appreciation and understanding more than you could ever by looking at a photo.
Hopefully I captured a little of that hard 'accusing' eye that a parsons has.
Also painted my xanth - he's very special to me as he was ill when he was young and i thought he might not make it so it was nice to paint him.
