Parsonii and Jacksons xanth painting - chameleon art.

I plucked up courage and painted a parsons and my xanth in Acrylics this week, My parsons boy struck this pose but he isn't an adult yet so I had to do some research for adult anatomy, colours and build.
I drew the whole thing from scratch without tracing and painted many many layers- the first details go on then there are many layers of transparent glazes over that then more finer and final details at the end.
I usually never paint anything with backgrounds - my things are usually more scientific studies of insects or plants on white paper but I enjoyed doing this. Finished picture about 15 x 13". I'll probably do another and learn from this one.
It's been so difficult- with every brush mark you are juggling textures, shapes, colours, tones, values, experience, ability, it really is hard.

Any artists out there will know we would never say we were truly happy with what we do but to quote something i heard recently - an artist talking about their own work - ' I don't hate it' :):ROFLMAO::D
I'm now painting my pygs. Will post them soon too.
Painting or drawing a subject such as this has been a lovely thing to do and you really get to study shapes and textures and get a better appreciation and understanding more than you could ever by looking at a photo.

Hopefully I captured a little of that hard 'accusing' eye that a parsons has.

Also painted my xanth - he's very special to me as he was ill when he was young and i thought he might not make it so it was nice to paint him.

You did amazing with their expressions, and I have to say, the expression is everything. The expression is what makes it seem real. The problem is the artistry can be beautiful, but if they don't get the expression right in the painting, it just doesn't cause any emotion in the observer. The Parson's has the classic grumpy and accusing look Parson's always have, that is unless you have food. The Jackson's has that kind of look Jackson's get when they are alone and just doing their stuff or outside enjoying the sun. I have learned Jackson's are some of the best expressers of chameleon bliss that exist.

Thank you Andee- I'm glad you liked their expressions- I know that steely 'Parson look' well, I get it from the boy every time i see him- if looks could kill - The female is much more laid back- kind of 'what aarrreee you doing?'
Yes the jacksons is an undemanding little soul- bless him - they are very sweet people.
He was called Crinkles because his tail was all crinkley and deformed but he's grown out of that and I feel along with his lovely straight tail he needs a new identity- shrugging off his old name. I'm just wondering what.
Thanks again:)

Thanks Charlie- Luckily I have one and he may well prove a good subject- if he stays still long enough to get reference.
