Parson's and Silkworms

My Parson's will not eat silkworms. Big fat juicy silkworm right in from of them and they show no interest. They like Hornworms though. Any one else experience this?

Did you let the silkworm crawl on a branch? Sometimes that stimulates chameleons to eat them for the first time. Ruth

My Parsonii wont eat silk worms at all. Horn worms are about the same as well. However my Parsonii only occasionally will zap them.

Panthers are another story though go nuts for silkworms.

My panther looks at them, then turns his back towards them lol. I wish he went nuts for silks!

I cannot speak for the parsonii portion... But I have a melleri who will not touch a hornworm for her life, no matter how it is presented... And this girl is the most voracious eater I have, will down supers, silks, and everything else without hesitation, but no hornworms!

Yeah, my Panther LOVES silks and horns and will almost not eat anything else.

I fed everybody snails today. They love them.

Snails, huh? I've seen that they're another food source for chams, but have never found a good source. Interesting, though. I wonder if they'd be too slow to attract my chams (f. Lateralis).

Glad to hear the snails are working out for you. Are they reproducing OK for you? I have got clean my snail tank this weekend.

Its been a long while, however I want to feed silkworm to my Trioceros deremensis pair. It would be great if they are fans of silkworms.

I'm raising silks right now and have about 300:eek:

The snails I have are not breeding yet. I don't have them dialed in yet and they're not large enough yet I think.

Snails are good correlation to potato chips for chameleons, crunchy and crispy.

Are your Jacksons silk worm fans? Montana species I have found really are big silk worm fans (except Parsonii).

Yeah, all the Jackson's like any kind of worm. The good thing about raising your own is I have small one's to feed the baby Meru's. Jackson's absolutely love snails too.

My Jackson's LOVEs worms, he would rather eat horns and silks than anything else. Luckily I can get him to eat Dubias every other feeding.

All my chams love the silkworms except for my WC Nosy Faly....I could not understand why. However, I saw a documentary that showed a Uroplatus going after something that looked very close to a silkworm but obviously not one. The gecko took one bite and was not interested further. The commentary was that it was not a good tasting insect which made me wonder if WC animals from Madi somehow think silkworms are not good based off of previous experience.
