Parsons Chameleon

Hey I am new to the forums and I havent seen anything about the parsons chameleon. I have a sub-adult veiled chameleon, but every time I goto the pet store in my home town i see a parsons chameleon that they have for sell.

I'm not sure on the sex of it but I think it is awesome. It costs 200 dollars and I have been tempted to get it just because the owners don't really know much about chameleons at all. It is in a big 100 gallon aquarium and has a dripper and a heat lamp.

I am just wanting to know a little bit more about the parson before I make a decision. Is 200 dollars a good price for it? Also, are they a good chameleon breed to have? I'm just wondering because I haven't seen much about them.

Edit: Just went to the shop and they said he was a male less than a year old. And that they would go lower on the price because they need the room. The wife was running the shop today and she was afraid of him so I couldn't get him out. I can probably go on the weekend and get him out when the husband is working if you need more pictures

There are many posts about Parson's chams on this forum and others. No offense intended- but- do you think this fellow may be yanking someone's chain?

Wow, Rocky. I really thought this was a hoax. Look forward to seeing the photos. If you don't want it, and it is a Parson's, someone from the forum that lives nearby would probably like to have it.

I will go take pictures of him/her tomorrow morning and post them. The guy told me that the chameleon was more or less dumped on him because the owner couldn't take care of him anymore or something to that extent. I live in a pretty small town so anything priced at 2000 wouldnt sell at all.

Like I said I will try to get pictures tomorrow.

I havent seen it out of the enclosure but she said that when she flares up she is a darker color with silver spots but I really don't think that they have taken it out.

Also said that it thins its body out really thin and tall if that makes a difference

I googled the parsons and found a few images and this image looks exactly like the one they have except she is a solid darker color

:D That's a panther chameleon.

DX well thats the body shape but its nowhere near that vibrant in color it is really dark. I will put some pictures up tomorrow of it. I am pretty positive its not a panther but i'll let everyone judge when they see the pictures.

Why are they so expensive compared to the others?

Ohhhh, it's a panther chameleon. $200 is a fair price for an adult panther, I would say, although if it's dumped off from a previous owner, you can't be sure of its health condition.

*Dodolah and Gesang beat me! Sorry Rocky.

The Parson's are expensive because they're very rare and no imports are allowed. The panthers are more expensive than some others because they're very colorful and popular in the hobby. Also, it could be displaying dark colors if it's stressed out.

If he looks very dark its possible that hes very stressed.Take several pics of him so people here can get an indication of his health.

Panthers are a good cham to have to! Parsons are just rare, expensive, and hard to care for if you dont know what your doing. And i think your looking at a panther cham in the store... 200$ is a great deal,i got mine for 350$ at 5 months:rolleyes:

Not to mention that the chances of a Parson's living more than a couple of days in a glass fishtank are slim. I doubt it is a Parson's. In fact, I would be willing to put money on it.
