Pest Control (Ants)

I have a question regarding ant control. All of my chams are kept outside here in SW FL, and this is the first year I have had any problems with these little tiny black ants. Since the rain started its normal patterns they have become very prolific and are all over the enclosures and my patio. I spray outside regularly with your typical big box brand bug spray but it doesn't seem to keep them at bay. Anyone have any advice?

Put diatomaceous earth down around the border. you will have to replace it after it rains, but get a big bag from a farm store and it will last you, it's very affordable too. Also non toxic so it won't harm the animals, just don't breathe in the dust because it will irritate your lungs.

I read last night some people put the feet of the enclosure in a plate of vegetable oil and that prevents ants from crossing it.

Maybe you can adapt the idea so it doesn't involve plates and let us know what you did? =)

My advice would be to call a professional, a few ants inside is one thing but outside ants can be a whole different animal.
Spraying pesticides around could split colonies, multiple times over.

Depending on the type of ant they may not even be an issue since outside.
Ants to be concerned about would be any kind of fire ant, or carpenter ants. Although carpenter ants do not sting some have large mandibles that could probably break skin.

I am not sure of the species. I am not concerned with them harming the chams really as I do not think they are a threat. I will try to identity them though. They seem to be just a nuisance more than anything. They seldomly make their way into the house. I think we have always called them crazy ants or something to that effect. I don't believe they build a nest and are more nomadic buy could be wrong.

Hello guys lots of ants in my farm. It has been resulted due to recent rains and rise in humidity level. Do you have any non toxic solutions that will not hurt my plants and still control ants? Should I need to hire professional pest control services?

There's this stuff at Home Depot you pour out and they take it back to the hole and they basically sit down for dinner then kills the queen and all within a day... It works really good
