Pet store jackson.. buy it or not?

its a xanth and looks okayto me...goodluck

mermontus look smaller and if anything the most common jacksons are xanth, so its safe to say its a xanth
 
It's got a stuck shed on its head that looks ages old..its dirty, yellow and very crusty. he is skinny, but doesnt show any signs of illness (that I, with little jackson experience, can see).

well the photos didnt capture that mess lol

and your right. he is rather skinny by the spine and tail....the belly through me off....he might have parasites???

anyway goodluck he does need some TLC and a good vet
 
I was thinking the poofy tummy was due to recent drinking and eating after not doing either for some time.

However, a fecal is never a bad idea. Hopefully with that many chameleons you have a relationship with a vet so will just have to deliver a sample and, if nothings shows, won't have to pay for a visit.
 
I have an appointment tomorrow for all my chams, and hopefully will be able to have a stool sample to take from this guy. I'll be putting him in a warm shower to rehydrate possibly this can work to get my sample.

Alright so he is finally in his cage. I gave him 2 showers in my bathroom, 30 minutes long each. I have a dripper going on in his cage, he's got his UVB and basking lights. Now I'm waiting to see if he'll eat the crickets and/or the superworm I left in there. Vet visit tomorrow
 
What vet do you go to? I live in Boca and my vet moved. I am always on the lookout for competent vets.
 
His name is Dr. Strauss. Located in Weston (by sunrise). He used to keep chameleons, I believe he is a member of the Association of Reptilian and Amphibian Veterinarians.. (or some other society like that).

I've gone to some other exotic pet vets around here but havent found one, aside from Dr. Strauss, who has worked with chameleons so he's the only one I can work with.

Alright, so I took all of my chameleons to the vet today. Here is what's up..

Enano- male veiled:
He has a bump on his left shoulder but hasnt grown for 3 months. We had done a culture to see if it was a bacterial infection, but nothing came up. My vet says it does not worry him. Aside from that, he is in very good health.
Enana-female veiled:
She had a mild fungus on her back because of mating. Enano punctured her skin a bit and from the humidity it caused a fungus. Its all healed up now. All is good with her.
Peaches-female Ambanja:
Cannot be better :D

And now for Teofilo (first name to come to mind while at the vets office)- T.J. Xanth.
He is dehydrated and has a stuck shed. He is also underweight (anyone have proper weights for jackson?). He is at 43 grams. No sign of mouth rot or URI. Bones are nice and strong so no MBD. He has to put in some weight and get some fluids, so hopefully he'll get better. Seems I got to him in time. The vet gave me powdered food to dilute in water and force feed if he doesnt eat in a few days.

No fecals were done because no stool samples could be provided. I cleaned the cages yesterday and the only possible samples were about 3 or 4 days old, all dried up.
 
Good that you got him out of that pet shop. I wouldnt worry about parasites anyways for a few months minimum. Let him quarantine and acclimate first and put on the needed weight. Then get his fecals done. I dont ever treat newly aquired chams unless its a last resort to save them. Often treatment can cause more issues than the parasites they are carrying in newly imported animals. If he doesnt put any weight on in a month or so. Then I'd start to think about parasites and treatments. You want him and his kidneys in the best possible shape before giving him any meds....;)

Sounds like a good vet visit to me. Glad the little new one is ok, and just needs some tlc.

I'm doing what I can:) I've got him outside for a bit so he can get some sunlight.. cant keep him out too long though, its like 95F.

Alright, so he pooped this morning! I'm taking it to the vet later to get a fecal done. He's still a little dehydrated by the looks of the urate but is doing much better! He doesn't close his eyes during the day anymore and is walking around his enclosure. Hopefully his fecal test will come clean.
 
Coccidia treatment time. Using albon for 2-4 weeks.. If not cure, using ponazuril.. Lack of appetite is expected but I forcefeed now so it won't make a difference.

The problem with Albon is just not that it often does not get rid of the coccidia, it's how sick it makes the chameleon. Since I've joined this forum I've seen many not make it throught the treatment. I had a big healthy veiled and I saw what it did to him and personally would never touch the stuff again.
 
I'll keep a close eye and see what happens.. If I see the cham getting bad, I'll talk to my vet to switch to the other medication.
