Pets and the Back of Pick-up Trucks

For all of you with pick up trucks.......PLEASE don't allow your dog to ride in the back. On the way to to take my dog to the vets this morning in West Palm Beach this beautiful black lab fell out of the back of this man's pick-up truck on the interstate. The car behind the truck hit and killed the dog. It was so sad. For all the truck drivers with pets PLEASE never allot them to ride in the back.

THAT is sad. Once again to man's stupidity the dog suffers.

I believe it is against the law in this state not to have your dog secured while riding in the back of a pick up.

It should be the law in every state.

Ive seen this happen a few times here is Cali...it is very sad...

Id like to put the owners in the back of the truck and make a few crazy turns and let them fall out.

I second that. I'd like to do several "eye for an eye" things to people that they think are okay for dogs (or other animals for that matter) and see how they like it.

I believe that a few states have this law, but yes, it should be every state.

they make a leash system on a track that prevents that from happenning in oregon they are passing a law that dogs cant ride in the cab of a pickup truck so if u only have a single cab then they have to ride in the back I have a 220 lb mastif he has to ride in the back of the truck but i have a track system that keeps him from getting too close to the side

Jann, living in Georgia - Every man thinks it is his God given right to own a pick-up and a dog, and the dog usually is in the back of the pick-up. I work with the shelter here and see and hear the awful stories of dogs falling or jumping out of the backs of the trucks. I remember one time, a man tethered his dog to the truck and the dog jumped out and he drug the dog a ways before he realized what happened - luckily the dog survived, but he did not have any meat on his back paws!

When I was a kidlet (a bazillion years ago) KIDS were allowed to run loose in the back of the pick up without anything holding them down.

IF there is one thing I like about the Seattle area, is the pro-dog attitude they seem to have for the most part.

Thats horrible. Im surprised a tropper didn't stop him when he saw the dog in the first place on the truck (the troopers are everywhere).

Looks like im going to email someone to help make this a law in FL now

Aint that the truth. Jann, I think if I witnessed that, I would need some serious therapy because just thinking about that makes me sick.
