Phew! You know when you get that feeling that its all going to go crap! that ominous feeling that in the very near future you will have to spend some serious dollar! I had that........My female Yemen was carrying eggs.(infertile) ..She got bigger.........and bigger...and bigger..and despite carrying on her normal feeding regime..i knew she was going to have to lay those eggs..so i provided a 12" deep plant pot filled with a mix of sand and top soil..kept damp..for weeks and weeks this went on..she got bigger and bigger...the normal gestation (internal) period went past,,,by weeks...im thinking..uh oh..we have a problem here!..Everyday I kept a close eye on her..she totally ignored the laying area..continued to look bigger every day..to the extent that i could actually see the eggs in her..i called the vet..made the appointment..and got ready for the possibillty of a BIG vet bill..I knew she was heavy with eggs, any idiot could see that..but i knew that the vet would go the whole X RAY route first £100...AND i KNEW that once after paying for the xray to confirm the obvious..that then the next step would be the injection to encourage egg laying..£60 and as it was obvious the eggs had now grown past the "laying" date..chances were it might involve a surgical procedure..£200 PLUS..
Then the night before her vet appointment..she casually walked down the branchto the edge of the laying area..spotting this..i helped by digging her a deep burrow...a few hours later i found her sitting reversed into the hole..i covered the font of her cage with a towel..and left her..the next morning..the hole was covered. she was basking on her branch..looking content and a hell of a lot skinnier..i sprayed her with some warm water and she fed instantly on several locusts/..........i cancelled the vet appointment...later that evening when i returned from work..i fed her again...she eagerly approached my hand and took locusts..she looked much better..
I removed the laying bin...and after digging down found the eggs....
84 in total!!
She is totally fine...and fit and healthy...and Rio my male yemen dropped off a "GET WELL" card and another card saying "WHEN YOU FEEL UP TO IT..HOW ABOUT SOME HOT LOVE ACTION FOR REAL?"
She was less than impressed..............
