Philodendren

I’ve been wanting to add some color to Spaghettis enclosure. I found a Pink Princess Philodendren at Walmart yesterday. I was so excited cause I’ve wanted one for a while. I feel like I’ve read somewhere on here that philodendren was safe? Does anyone know if this would be ok to put in his enclosure? He is definitly a plant muncher. Anything I put in there, he nibbles.

I personally would not use it. It comes done to the calcium oxilates in the leaves and stems... While pothos has this as well they have been universally used with Veileds that actively eat their plants and have not shown to be a risk to them.
Thank you! As if I needed further evidence of his plant habit…I heard a weird noise from across the room (I zoomed in so don’t mind it being blurry) looked up and saw him munching an ENTIRE pathos leaf 🙄

Yep so this is one of those better safe than sorry. I know others have used philodendrens but if they were actually a commonly recommended plant for a Veiled then Chameleon Academy would have them listed as a veiled tested.

Also that plant is just to pretty to be ripped apart lol

Such a cool plant, I believe they’re a little touchy to care for and with a veiled ripping them apart(toxicity aside) it may struggle.

My gut tells me veiled are probably pretty resilient to most plant toxins, as it seems many animals that eat plants are, but I’d agree no sense risking anything. It would be cool if there was a reliable research article on the differences in plant toxicity, like google mostly says pothos and philodendrons are toxic for the same reason, but it’s not as simple as that. Probably a lot to do with the structure? of oxalates and/or how potent? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Its adorable to see them eat the plants but it hurts when you have to replace them all every few months because they only have sticks left in their enclosures...
Beman going after the only yellow hibiscus bud I have gotten (right on the screen)... Mind you this is literally 15 inches up from the basking branch to the screen where the bud was.

To me giving up fighting with him for 30 minutes and pulling it off to give him so he would not fall trying to do it himself.

We do not get to have pretty flowers in this cage :hilarious:
