Phoenix worms?

Hey guys, I have a question if phoenix worms are a good feeder. Should they be a staple feeder or should they be given every once in a while? Any response is appreciated :) Thank you :D

I think they are good as a staple but I don't like em as a feeder since they just need a tiny bit of moisture to be able to escape everything so I use em as a once in a while feeder.

You can throw in a handfull and the ones that escape will eventually be a nice treat wjen they turn into BSF.

They are my number 2 feeder behind dubias ... I actually use the flies because they are easier to feed. I buy my worms by the thousand and keep them in a wine fridge at 56 degrees. They keep for months.

really good feeder but they can taste bad so i wash them before feeding my chameleon with and you really need too give at the morning because they can be hard to digest (you will find some undigested in poop)

I never used them as a feeder before now, but I am waiting for flies and feeding them! I have never seen a chameleon so excited for a meal ! I like to call it "Fast Food" but Raistlin likes to call it LUNCH!!!

They are a good feeder and high in Ca. If your reptile won't bowl feed they might crawl away and turn into flies. For chams that shouldn't be any issue as they will just eat the flies, too.

I have been waiting for them to turn into flies.

I have one veiled that will eat a whole bowl of them, and a panther that is not interested at all.

How long does it take to turn into flies if I don't refrigerate?

Some are starting to turn black so I assume I am getting closer .
(Or dying )

My Cham doesn't get too excited for these guys. At least not the first time I tried it. I really should try them again. I'm kinda worried about them turning and escaping into the house. How big are the fly's? Standard house fly size? I know they are basically designed perfect for calcium needs of chams so I would live to give him these. I guess if I can get over the fear of a Dubia infestation these should be a piece of cake. Time to buy an electric swatter .

the flies are easy to catch too if they escape. they are attracted to light so as long as the chameleon's lights are on when you open the door, the likelihood of them escaping into your room is slim. Turn off the lights in the room will help as well. Just make sure not to open the enclosure's door while the lights in your room are on and the chameleon's lights are off... they will all fly towards your room's lights.

when they are turning brown and then black, it means they are slowing down their grown and getting ready to pupate and turn into flies.
My enclosure had so many flies my chameleons became overwhelm and stopped feeding on them :(
I sucked them all out with a vacuum and then I'll slowly reintroduce them in a week or so.
I find the flies were also landing on the chameleon and irritating them substantially which didn't help with getting them to keep eating them. They only need moisture to live as adults because they don't have mouths to feed on foods as adult flies. Their only purpose as an adult is to live long enough to mate.

Don't use a regular refrigerator. That will kill them. When I pull them out of my wine fridge, it takes about a week before I start seeing flies. I continue to get flies for about 2 or 3 weeks. The pups stage is fatter and brown.

Great feeders!! They’re just really small and aren’t totally fulfilling for adult chams, unless you’re feeding them a buttload of them.

When I first started using Phoenix worms I was worried about the flys to but they’re so harmless and quite stupid flies. They always fly to the window and you can literally grab them with your hand and put them back in the chameleons cage. My chams go nuts for them.

I'm not afraid of them but any type of bug flying or crawling in the house will give my wife reason to say no more reptiles. Haha. I might put some in with my cricket bin though since the bsf will beat out regular fly's. Currently I have a problem with regular fly's trying to setup camp in my cricket and roach bins.
