Phoenix Worms

Pretty sure I ordered large ones - so yes looks like they had reached that stage. I'll try medium next time. Their p&p rates are quite high. I suppose if you order enough its not too bad.

my 500 pack just arrived and it's like a writhing mass of life. Totally worth it, they're active, though smell quite bad.

You can wash them, even use soap and shake the heck out of them. They are extremely tough larvae. When they first stop eating they will clear their gut of whatever they have been eating for a couple of days in the form of a brown liquid that smells pretty earthy. Just wash them if they smell.

The package should arrive today. I was told by the supplier that my area is too hot so the package will be left at the post office for me to pick up. I will be rather busy today so I won't be able to pick it up before the post office closes today. Will the larvae have any problem staying in the little shipping package one extra day at the post office? I'd assume not, since I've heard they're rather hardy.

Did you have chameleon poop with Phoenix worm parts in it? I am surprised that something as soft as a Phoenix worm (especially after the requisite first chomp) would make it though the digestive system intact.

They get less "soft" as they age. If your chameleon "chomps" it wont have an issue. Those that swallow without any chewing are the ones that can pass the maggot undigested. If you have a non-chewer, just use a pin to poke a small hole in the maggot and that should be sufficient to ensure digestion.

My chams didn't like them at all. I couldn't even get my baby box turtles to eat them. And they looked and smelled gross to me. So they were a fail at my house. I much prefer butterworms and hornworms personally.

Just picked up my phoenix worm shipment from the post office this morning. My little guy loves them! It's good to see they won't be going to waste.
