physiological question

I was hand watering my 6 mo sambava male and he got some water in his eye. He shut his eye tightly and then seemed to lick it from inside the eyelid repeatedly. It was really bizarre looking, like a little alien was under his eyelid. Anybody seen this before? Can they stick their tongues through a nasal cavity to reach the eye?

You might see reference to this inner eyeball licking on the web. Its a myth. The cham is doing a flush of the inner turret. It does not involve the tongue. This is very normal....

They'll show that same behavior sometimes when no watering is involved, where they close their eye and all sorts of odd contortions take place back behind the eye turret. I always find it a little creepy to watch, but they seem to take it in stride.
