Picasso on the chew

Personally I dont think there is anything wrong with it..... BUT that pup is rather large and going down backwards, and could possibly get lodged in the throat of your cham...

Gotcha Al.

As far as his rat pup diet, he only gets it once a week, usually Saturdays......if he's good. Lol.

Stop it. Once a year is to much! That's like you eating a 35 pound apple fritter once a week..
I don't mind the video. Its sad.. but i have three snakes and have for 10 years and i still get sad. I'm a softy but its life.. does it need to be a spectical no. but its no big deal. dont watch it :)

This.

Whats wrong with you people???

Bashing someone for posting a feeding video?

If things like that bother you, dont watch it.

If you didnt watch the video, how could you possibly comment on it?!

My only concerns, were stated above by coldbloodedAL, and Olimpia(the animal protein thing).

This is not a cruel, or demented action, neither was taping it.

I didn't watch it but I kinda get the idea from what everyone is posting. I don't like stuff like that so I don't look. Everyone has their opinion and I think taping that stuff is sick. And no I do not even watch my chameleons eat the large worms. I have to look away. I don't want to see it squirm and all the guts fly out. I watched it the first time and learned I don't need to see it again. To each his own....

Ooph, please stop that routine! Remember, these guys are insectivores, a red-meaty bundle like that this often will give him medical issues in not very long. At this point, I would stay not to even consider doing it again for at least 6 months, if not longer. When anyone says it's ok to do this, it's usually only maybe 3-4 times a year, never more.

I'm sure Ferretinmyshoes, Sandrachameleon, or another expert or professional will pipe in and explain the health part of it in more detail, but trust me, it's not a healthy treat at all.

Why not go out and go bug hunting in a wild area? It's fun to find grasshoppers or other safe insects, and it will way more exciting for your chameleon. Especially if they are flying insects, like dragonflies or butterflies.

I agree with Olimpia completely. Once a week is WAY too often!! That pup is high in fat, vitamin A, D and animal proteins. All of those can cause significant health problems in excess, and a rat pup once a week is definitely excessive. Animal proteins are not the same as plant proteins - they are harder to digest and accumulate differently than plant proteins, specifically in the forum of uric acid. Vertebrates are not a notable part of chameleon's normal diet in the wild and too many animal proteins in the diet of an animal that's not a carnivore can wreak havoc on their kidneys leading to kidney damage and gout. Gout is a very painful incurable buildup of uric acid crystals in the joints. Everything your chameleon needs can be obtained through an all-insect diet with good gutloading and many very successful enthusiasts and breeders have sustained multiple generations with an all-insect diet.

Also, (I will not watch the video) a rat pup seems like it would be too large and a possible choking hazard for a veiled.

Its not a veiled, its a parsons

I do not believe in animal cruelty. I think I have drilled that a little far on this forum. I personally, would not want to watch a reptile eat a rat, mouse, anything like that- especially while its screaming.
That said, I gotta agree with Snake on this one. Many here have posted comments that they have snakes. When I started my thread on wanting another reptile about half the people who commented said they had snakes and loved them. Admittedly I am sure many feed their snakes frozen mice. What's the difference? Death before the snake or death after. Had hustlur posted a video of a chameleon eating a silkworm or cricket would we all feel so disgusted? Are insects lower lifeforms of lesser intrinsic value? Lets face it, in some way or other we have chosen pets which rely on violence and suffering of other creatures for their own survival. What makes this video difficult is:
1) chameleons do not typically eat rats so it seems like unessassry suffering
2) rats are mammals, they seem more like pets than insects, they are a step closer to human and thus this video is a step closer to home.

I think the video is kind of gross, it is sad, I do not intend to watch it again. I do not think; however, that the OP should be burned at the stake for it. I do hope he will take into consideration the comments about too much animal protein though. That is one beautiful cham, I'd hate to see it get gout.
