picking up some eggs tomorrow have questions

I'm driving 2 hours to go pick up 6 blue bar ambilobe eggs tomorrow. The breeder said they will hatch within the month. I was concerned being that I am in Ohio and it is cold out side right now moving them from the incubator to my home 2 hours away. ? The breeder said they are about 90% incubated and I would be fine to bring them home in the deli cup and put them in a warm closet until they hatch.. he said said in previous clutches his hatch rate is near 100%.. any red flags or advice? Also how long can I house the hatchlings together about 2 months?
 
If the profit level is so high, why wouldn't he/she keep them and hatch them his/her self. I don't suggest moving eggs that far along. Also i would get a decent pen light and candle the eggs before you purchased them for sure, if you decide to do so. Dez has a good candling video if you search the forum.

I was sort of thinking the same thing myself. Unless he is just going to have to many hatchlings to handle. I kind of think I might just be better off buying a panther from a reputable online breeder. However the idea of having some hatchlings intrigued me. As I am interested in breeding myself I thought it could give me a feel for how hard it will be to raise and sell some hatchlings.
 
I will tell you from personal experience, raising babies is a journey. But, you should probably get experience with just raising a juvenile before jumping in the deep end so to speak.

I've raised lots of veileds from about 4 weeks.. it's been about 4 years since I last had a cham.. but I've raised lots from juveniles.. for about a 10 year span.. I wanted to get a panther now and possibly get into breeding though.. I just figured this could give me a semi-experience
 
Pass. I have no trouble finding buyers. So, him resulting to selling eggs is a little off putting. You raise fruit fly cultures for about $.50-1.00 a piece, meaning no real costs the first month. Then, sell them, if must. After all, they are just sitting in an incubator requiring no real work or money. Don't like. Pass. The bumps in the road or broke down car, could derail everything.
 
How did they turn out? I emailed the guy with questions and ask for pics. I emailed him back and declined. Guy was actually a jerk to me about turning the eggs down after questions.

That is just giving away your money. There is no way to safely ship eggs after they are over a week old. Even when first laid it is a chance. I would buy chams, not eggs.jmo
 
I agree Laurie :). I was actually very tempted and almost pulled the trigger on one, but that was way before I started doing research on here. It appears the seller has begun advertising on faunaclassifieds and will more than likely make his way here.
 
I have never bread chameleons before, but I have researched it because I just like to know things. I occasionally you with the idea. I agree with everyone else, buying eggs is a gamble. Not a good idea.
 
Thanks everybody for all the replies. Unfortunately to the dismay of most of you I did pick up 6 eggs.. I used the pen light method to candle them and they appear to be fertile however time will tell that story. This will not be something I do again. However I paid 200 so even if one hatches I make my money back. I honestly wanted a kammer and I should have just shelled the money they're way in fact I probably still will. For now we wait on these eggs and hopefully they all hatch beautiful little ambilobes. I did see his breeding colony which consisted of one ambilobe male and I believe 4 ambilobe females. And he also had a nosy faly pair. There was two cages with hatchlings from a clutch laid 3/18. The eggs he sold me were laid 4/26. My only concern is I feel he probably mass reproduces because he had two incubators full of deli cups. Either way it won't be the first time I've been burnt off craigslist for something if they don't hatch but I could potentially have 6 ambis. Plus I know he goes to the all Ohio show every month I'll follow him to the parking lot afterwards if they don't hatch and show him what's up.. you know demand my money back lol.. anyways I brought them back in my warm truck without moving or turning them what so ever. And brought them home I have the deli cup in a Tupperware container with just a tiny bit of water in the bottom. And they have been moved to my closet which is staying around 72-74 degrees now we wait.

Purchasing eggs was your choice, at least you picked them up instead of trying to get them shipped. Good luck with the eggs, keep this updated:D
