Hi Everyone! Im from Puerto Rico and Im not that good with the english XD Also Im sort of new in this forum, and I luv it ^.^ Thanks to it I didnt kill my Kami with bad husbandry lol Yeah... petstores give lots of wrong info :mad: (and its a well known one trought the sates -_-) Specialy about dusting the feeders, Calcium with D3 3 to 4 times a WEEK!! :eek: Good thing that before feeding him and on the same day of purchase I researched on my buddy :) Kami is a 5 month (I think) Jackson Chameleon.
Hes doing great so far for his first week with me. Though Im having problems with basking spot >.<
Temperatures in PR are really crazy! one hour raining with temps on 70 to 80 and then 2 hrs later with the full sun its 85 to 88. Im having trouble with keeping basking spot temp at 84-85. when I turn the 45 flood light it goes to 90 or 92.(thats placing it like a feet away LOL) Sad thing I dont own an air conditioner -_- so i cant lower the temps. Soon Im gonna try a exo terra daylight basking spot lamp 25w, wich is the lower Ive found. I have a reptibreeze cage, an ultrasonic mist humidifier that its on most of the day and night. So humidity is always 70-75 sumtimes 80. On lighting i have a compact reptiglo 5.0.(UVB) during day and at night an exo terra night glo moonlight lamp. At night it gets cold so he does have the 10 temp drop. Hes eating crikets well 4 to 5 a day. drinks water just fine and it moves around to hunt. Also he poops ok like 2 times a day. For plants he has all fake vines with green leaves. and 3 live chinese bamboo. wich he loves to climb on. He likes to bask on the flood light... even though temps are that high. On the lower cage during the day, temps are 80, rarely 75. Its my first reptile... yeah they not for beginners didnt know they were hard to keep! Ive learned like a LOT this week lol but i enjoy the experience and its really rewarding! And I luv Kami! :D Ill be posting a pic of him ;) So if anyone coud help me with the problem Id apreciate it. Cuz they should have a basking spot even if temps are high... right? o_O *now confused* lol

He's a good looking little guy. I think you're really close on his age estimate.

Jacksons do well with cool temps but be careful with high temperatures.
In my opinion if your ambient temperatures are in the 80's and above you should turn your spot light off. Constant high temperatures are not good. When temps are high, extra misting, a dripper and/or your humidifier will help. The idea is to let your Jackson have temperature gradients within his cage. On normal days have a spot for him to bask (80-85 is good) and also a place for him to be cool if he needs to.

I would not have any kind of light or heat source on him at night. They can easily handle temps in to the 40's at night as long as they can bask during the day.

Welcome to this very informative and helpful community! I have been keeping Veileds for about 4 years now and about a month ago I got y first Jackson baby - he is almost 3 months and is still really small! He is only 2 inches from nose to vent! Your little fella is gorgeous! I can't wait till mine gets that size with his big horns! :D
 
hi kami , because of my prehistoric internet connection i was only able to view the first pic so based mostly on your text here is what i would suggest.

for basking all he needs is a 15w clear fridge or oven bulb. i would leave the humidifier off at night or put it on a timer so it only comes on for 15min or less every hr.

one of the best things you can do for his health is get him regular outside daylight. if you can manage to get him 3 hrs a week, you can do away with d3 all together, and just give plain cal 1x-2x a week. if he doesnt get natural sun all the d3 he needs is a single dusting the size of a matchead for about 4-5 feeders once every 7-10 days. i can guaranty you that giving him d3 4x a week will cause serious, probably irreversible problems in the near future. he shouldnt have any supp including plain cal more than 2x a week. and never 2 days in a row.

imo, he would do better if you got him a schlefferra or other cham safe live lush green plant for the inside of his cage . it should occupy at least 2/3 the cage. also they like to be up high, so try to get the top of his cage about 6' off of the ground.

imo, the 2 most common problems is over supplementation and poor diet . cricks are a terrible feeder i would recommend using them only for purposes of supplementation, imo, he should be on a diet of mostly roaches, house or bottle flies, sikworms and bsfl at minimum.

roaches and flies are easy to raise, so feel free to repost or pm if you need help. jmo

Thanks everyone!:) I really apreciate your help. I will do my best on him and try to keep the temp gradients. And have a good diet for him. You guys are really helpful XD And mis lily wish ya the best with your new jackson! :D they are so awesome! I will keep posting Pics of him when he keeps growing :)

XD thanks Guys! Oh! Miss Lily i pmed you on info bout kami, but not sure if it sent cuz my internet been cranky on me lol Hope Monty is doing great!! :-D Im gonna start feeding Kami silkworms and crickets starting next week cuz hes only been on crickets since i got him from petsmart. If i get roaches ill add them to the menu lol Btw thanks Xanthoman for the info on what to feed. :)
 
Haven't had anything from you today. Maybe it didn't get through. I am waiting for my silkworm eggs to hatch too because I think Monty will love them! He is doing great thanks! He ate 3 out of the four crix I left in his cup today and he's never eaten that many crix before so I am very happy!:D

Awesome! Yeah their apetites skyrocket when they young... Mine was eating 4 to 5 crikets a day.... Now his eating 7-10 Lol im going bankrupt with him XD I was gonna try superworms with him but read in to many posts that chams get too fund of them and usualy stop eating crickets and they not too nutritional >.< As many had said its like chocolate to them! Hahaha So i better not put in risk the easiest to get sourse of food here on PR XD (now silkies online :] ) Btw i think i cant create an album unless im a member(one month) ^.^ When i do ill upload lots of other pics ;)
 
Im thinking about gettting either a male jacksons lke kami's or a breeding pair. Is it possible to house both the male and female together in a sizeable enough cage like either a 18x18x36 or a 24x24x48?
