Pinkish urates

I gave the bottom of Neelix's cage a thorough clean today and found a couple of urates that were pinkish in colour. Any one know what might have caused this? He's eating locusts and silkworms.

pink? like orange or yellow, if its pink or red that could mean blood but it sounds likes he may just not be drinking enough....
Please get picture that would be awesome help

I threw the urates away, should have got a pic. I'm keeping an eye on him & he produces another I'll get a pic asap. I don't think he's dehydrated as the urates are runny.

My thought was blood too :(

that's a good idea. I picked up a card for a reptile specialist when I was at the vets last week. My usual vet says she can deal with reptiles but I don't like her bedside manner and she is mostly a small & furries vet. I think I'll give this guy a call tomorrow.

What supplement do you use? Can't be sure but are there not some that can do this? Hopefully someone with more knowledge will help.:)

I gave him reptivite for the 1st time last week, so the timing would be right. Not heard of that one but I'll be relieved if that's all it is!

Were they old or fresh? Maybe they started to get a funky mold and turned pink if they were old?

I think that the mold would only be either grey or green. It wouldn't make sense for it to be pink, because only certain molds are pink and I believe those were related to a certain toxin (?).

they were probably a few days old, they were dried out. I only take out all the plants to clean the cage once a week, so they were out of sight

I have seen some urates turn a little pinkish when left sitting for a few days. But the other possibility is that it could be blood tinged. Possibilities for blood tinged urates include: an infection or inflammation of the cloaca, hemipenes, urethral or kidney disease/infection. In turtles/tortoises it makes me worry about bladder stones, but since chameleons don't have bladders that can't be it. I would not worry just yet if everything else looks normal. Whenever there's an abnormality that's not affecting overall health yet I always wait to see if it's a consistent finding. See what the next (fresh) urates look like. If they are indeed pink then it might be time to consider diagnostics.

The repashy cal+ definitely causes carrot-orange staining when it gets wet. I haven't seen that type of staining in my cham's urates/feces since they've been on it though, and the last fecal I got I put on wet paper towels to take to work and didn't see any coloration. So I'm not sure how well it is digested versus remaining in bowel movements. Maybe it passes through if you use enough of it and I just haven't seen that effect yet.

I would think it's also possible that the urate could just happen to land on some of the Repashy Cal+ and get stained. It's a small world after all.
