Pissed Chameleon

Is there anyway to have my chameleon be less mad every time I go to handle her. I have slowly been trying to handle her but without much luck. Every time i try she either runs away or looks like the picture.

Do you have a safe area that you can allow her to hand on a large plant or tree while you are around to watch? The more you take her out and interact with her the friendlier she will get.

Haha my male veiled is just as grumpy. I've succesfully held his fav treat (wax worms) in front of him and made my other hand the only way to get to it. It's worked twice. Still a work in progress. Patients is the other main ingredient to success with a grouch

Actually that is what I was trying to take her out back to explore one of my plants in my yard because it is a glorious day here in California. But I'll try the wax worms sometime in the near future she just loves wax worms.

Thanks

how old is ur veild and has he ever bit u?

She is about 8-9 months old maybe a little older and she has never bitten me. When ever she looks like shes about to bite me I just leave her alone.

Some chams are just nasty it's in there nature and to be honest all of my females are but if you do want to handle her I wouldn't go to pick her up then back of when she spits at you, just be brave an get her out else they get worse but chameleons are more of a look but don't touch animal

All my females have been real sweethearts...really all my chams but I am very hands on with mine and they all free range.

Im having the same frustrations myself, the best luck ive had is putting a branch inside the cage which can hold my little guys weight and allow him to walk on it. Then i just move him out that way. Every other time i try to hold my hand out he give me the "dont even think about it" look lol

yeah to b honest mines does that to but im getting tired of it my cousin came and picked him up juss like i showed him with the stick and his hand but me im so skurred when he puffs up but when i do pick him up i will post pics

My little female is a sweetie and climbs right on board my hand, but my male so far is pretty feisty... If I have to handle him then I need to wear gloves because he has bit me a couple of times..

I'm experimenting with offering a branch pathway into a smaller "outdoor/sunning" cage that conveniently has a tall plastic cup with some tasty crickets in the bottom. So far that has worked 1 out of 2 times, because he was really hungry for the crickets... Sort of a "hamster-like habit-trail connecting tunnel system" with bait... I'm hoping to get him to recognize the experience as "Oh, crickets and/or sunshine :) ...." and save us both the stress...
