I'm buying a 48 inch tall cage.
What kind of live plant would be good/fit in the cage?

I got a hibiscus from the home depot, i think its 30-40 dollars there, but it retains water really great!

Home depot has shefflera , hibiscus , pothos, & Ficus that'd fit that cage for $10-$20 depending on the sale.. I bought all of those for $10 or less by just checking once a week for a month or so.. Right now is a great time as theyre trying to clear inventory.

I have a Schefflera (umbrella plant) and a large ficus in my cage. Cost me $20 for both plants at Home Depot.

Are the umbrella plants healthy if eaten by the cham? Mine eats Pothos all the time.

You can never go wrong with nice big ficus!!

Look for the Ficus alli that has longer knife blade shaped leaves sort of like a eucalyptus. They tend to grow larger, have stronger branches, and are less fussy than Ficus benjamina. Big box home stores often have larger potted ones with braided trunks.

Thats the kind I have too. The only negative is that you need to water it a lot or it will drop leaves everywhere. This is easy to fix though, just put your dripper above it and have the water path down into it.

So what big boxes do you guys find ficus at this time of year? I checked lowes and home depot, but no luck.

Edit: lowes, not loses lol

Schefflera has my vote. It has been more durable for me than all of the other above mentioned plants. It seems to handle the excessive water from dripping and misting better than the others.

So how is the foliage thing going for your reptarium. I found that the cage was too big for my 3 month old she was wearing herself out hunting the crickets down. I also didn't like the Rep light option with the mesh.. You should post some pictures.

Keep in mind not all plant are sold in these store year round. Most plant available right now r the shefflera and the hibiscus. The hibiscus is a much more difficult plant to keep alive in a cage. They don't do well with being misted many times a day. I had a hibiscus in my cage for a week weeks and the leaves started to all turn yellow, and I have all the proper item to create the proper settings and temps. I then placed it back outside and it came right back to life. I really like the pothos. They r really hearty plant and can grow fast and the vines can wrap all around the cage. My Cham loves the vines all over the cage. I am adding another pothos to my cage soon after it dine growing roots. The great thing about these plants is that u can just cut along vine off an exsisting plant and place in a cup of water for a few weeks and transplant it. It's all up to u but I would prolly try the ficus before the hibiscus.
