plant from home depot i have no clue..

Planning on getting some plants from home depot.. i know what kinds to get but are the plants safe to use the way they sell them if i clean them well ? also i was thinking about putting some moss or sand over the top so she cant eat the dirt.. what is best to use ? last night i removed my pothos to replant it with organic mix and a bigger pot, and when i went to put it back in it was too heavy for the enclosure.. the cham was pissed off the next day trying to eat the plastic plant i put in for now lol also home depot sells those plants, i cant even spell the names but is it possible they have lets say a type of pothos that is not suitable for her ? thanks alot greatly appreciated !

Pothos are all ok.plants from home depot are ok if washed. I take dish soap in both hands and rub all the leaves between my hands, then wash the soap off really well. Some people repot the plants, some don't . Either way use some stones of a size that would never fit in your chams mouth to cover the soil. They are much safer than, moss or anything they can get in there mouths.Ficus and umbrella plants work well in cages also.

I, too, use dish soap to clean plants. I first rinse them really well with the hose, and then set up big bucket of soapy water and dunk them repeatedly and then rinse with the hose.

I've used paper towels to cover the soil of my potted plants--not as heavy as rocks.

great thanks.. i ended up getting a pothos and a money tree, now i have to take everything out of the tank to fit them in properly.. also i think ill leave the dirt in the pot the way it is.. if she eats it it's probably for a reason..

You do not want to leave the dirt from the store accessible to your chameleon. You do not know if it has been treated with any type of insecticide or fertilizer which could harm the chameleon. It is prudent to repot with organic untreated soil. Also you need to limit the chameleon's access to the dirt, ingesting it could cause a blockage in the gut which could kill the animal.

What type of mister is it? You want it to spray long enough to provide dripping water the chameleon can access for drinking and time it so that between sprayings the cage can dry out. Usually one needs to provide some type of drainage so the water does not pool in the bottom of the cage.

i have butter container lids to catch most of the mist from the mister and all of the water from the dripper.. it's zoo med mister and the carpet gets a bit damp but quickly dries in the day time.. i don't mist in the night or use a dripper.. im thinking about putting the tank in a 1 foot tall container and plenty wide enough so she still gets good ventilation and it catches the water coming out the sides.. usually after a 60 second mist with the dripper running humidity gets to about 65 - low 70's.. at night it drops to about 50 sometimes more.. i put the money tree in with paper towel over the dirt and 2 big flowers so she cant get at it at all..

Make sure you clean that butter container out regularly, standing water will hold bacteria and all sorts.

Ok thanks and i have to dump it out 4 timss a day isnt that enough to keep it clean.. it is water from a water cooler not tap water.. i washed the lids with boiling water

Ok thanks.. do you think if i dump boiling water on it every day before i start the mister would be fine ? If not what can i use to clean it? Completely different subject but the more i learn about chameleons the more i want to go to petsmart and talk to the manager about how they are not caring for the ones they have properly at all... the lady thinks chameleons are same as snakes, because the tank was made for a snake and set up for1too.. water bowl with stale gross looking water that is not evesn suitable for a dog, and they feed them multi vitamin every day.. nothing elce...

Yes tap water should be treated with water conditioner.. my tap water has all types of minerals and calcium so it would get stale and grow bacteria alot quicker than botteld water..
